I've got a 96 2dr. Tahoe Sport. Currently it has duals on it, but they are rusted and nasty looking. One of the "mufflers" has a hole in it the size of a pencil. The mufflers appear to be the glasspack design which are straight through. My problem is, I need to replace everything, from the engine to the bumper. I'd like to stay with somewhat of a budget and not break the bank.

We have no emission laws in AL, so cats or not don't really matter to me as long as I don't have a SES light. I've read that you can "turn off" the rear 2 02 sensors that cause the light. And if you can delete the rear 02's, how can I have it done?

Option 1:
A decent set of headers and straight pipes (no cats) back to the mufflers with 2-3/4 -3" tips out both rear corners.

Option 2:
A decent set of headers, new piping with cats and duals out to the corners with 2-3/4 - 3" tips.

Option 3:
Stock manifolds, new piping with cats and duals out to the corners with same tips as above.

Option 4:
Stock manifolds, no cats, and mufflers with duals out to the corners with same tips.

Are there any of these options I could look at picking up for $500 +/- in parts? The labor is not a problem. I can have them installed at my shop.

Sound is not as important as a proper working exhaust, but I do want a somewhat throaty sound and a little louder than stock and no leaks.

Opinions? Bolt on exhausts are perfectly fine as well. Any good places to find what I need? Used or new are ok as well, as long as the used components are in good condition.

Thanks in advance!

I would go with headers, dual 40 series flowmaster mufflers, new pipes(of course) and no cats. I like you will love the sound.

What kind of money are we talking that route? Remember it needs to be economical for me right now. Later on I might change it but the less I have to spend right now the better. I have a few other things in mind first.

I appreciate the input. That exhaust however is for a 4 door single exit. And I'm not sure if I want to let Pacesetter touch my Hoe. I've heard really bad things about Pacesetter.

I'm looking to find a dual exit exhaust preferably. Keep in mind I can keep my stock manifolds if need be. They aren't in bad condition. It also doesn't have to equal $500. The cheaper the better, as long as it's functional.

go with a set of pacesetter header (230), 2 cats (200), and 2 40 series flowmasters(160). This setup will give you a GREAT sound, GREAT performance, AND GREAT uh,,just plain great!

That would be fine, but it has to stay under $500. I don't have that kind of cash to throw around. I'm looking for a decent sounding exhaust (mainly no rust and no holes) for as cheap as I can get and still get good quality.

I'm thinking about stock manifolds, no cats, and flowmaster 40 series. Coupled with all new piping with 3" tips should keep me under my budget by a few bills.

If I were to go the route of no cats, how can I delete the rear o2's?

I know this may sound really scary to some people but, have you considered going to a muffler shop and actually talking to an actual person without the aid of a computer? Just go down and ask for an estimate - it wont cost you a thing and you may be surprised. Exhaust system installations are relatively cheap compared to most vehicle associated maintenance techs.

Yeah, just go down there and tell the dude "hey man, I need to from here to here, and it has to be xxx$. And go from there.
Most muffler dudes are probably going to be receptive on that type of thing.

Im interested in hearing the O2 business if someone wants to describe how to 'delete' them from the equation.

Only reason I havent went down to the muffler shop is work. I wanted to have an idea of what I would be looking at spending from other's experiences as far as mufflers and such. As well as finding out how to delete the rear o2s.
