Hadn't given an update in a while, so I thought I'd drop in and say a few things.
Went by the shop yesterday and it's still making progress. I'm told that it should be getting paint this weekend. My painter had some family issues come up, so it threw things a bit behind schedule, but things happen. I got my LED tails and my HID kit in, so those should hopefully go on during reassembly. The Tahoe Z bumper also came in and is being prepped right now. I haven't installed the 2/3 drop kit I bought, but they have offered to come and let me install it in their shop at my convenience while they are working on it. Haven't decided if I'm going to do that or not, or just wait until I get it back.
I also got my Maggie in, so I'll definitely be having that and my Corsa tip welded in once I get it back, as well as installing the Escalade guages and getting the windows tinted.
I'm pumped to get it back. It should look pretty crazy!

I thought about doing an "SS" replica with rims, emblems and all, but I decided to stay away from doing exactly that. It might look more like an SS that GM should have made than I am anticipating, but who knows. The one thing I decided to keep that probably wouldn't have been on an SS was the running boards. I went back and forth with this, but ultimately decided to keep them and just color match them to give some continuity between that and the rear bumper. If I don't like them, I'll take them off I suppose. With a 2/3 drop though, I think it'll look pretty nice, not to mention my girlfriend actually uses them to get in.
All things said, I think it should come out looking pretty clean. I wanted something that looked nice, but not too over the top. Most of the things I'm adding, sans the front bumper and LED's, are mostly items that GM offered on the Tahoe's, Yukon's or Escalade's. And even the SS bumper is just a variation of another GM part.
Thanks for all of the comments and words of encouragement guys. It's been a long time coming, but I think there light at the end of the tunnel is near!

That's gonna look nice man! I'm getting tired of driving my Dad's old beater. It's actually in pretty good shape, it's just REALLY out of date. Remember the mid-90's Chevy trucks with the Regency packages on them? Yeah, that's how I'm rolling right now. Don't be jealous!!! I think I've got him convinced though to lose the running boards, get 20's and put a drop on it. That needs to happen NOW!

I know, I know.....the natives are getting restless. So am I for that matter!

I went by early last week. It's looking good with all of the body work being done, but the pictures didn't really show up well. It's not like I'm having major custom body mods to show off, other than the hack job that the guy before did to it! I'm going to get by there in the next day or two and check it out again. If it's got some paint on it, I'll snaps some photos and post them up.

It's been a long time since I posted anything up here regarding my ride. Some things came up, and it's still not done, but it is close. Everything is in the final prepping stages and supposedly I'll be helping shop for paint soon. This is where my next crossroads comes into play and I need some help.

Since it's taken so long and it doesn't require too much more work than he's already going to do, my painter has offered to let me do a color swap. Everything from the jams, to the underside of the hood, etc. would be painted to match, should I decide to change. I'm a little up undecided. I like the charcoal gray that it is now and it has really grown on me, but when I bought it, I originally wanted black. I still like black, but there are already a lot of black Tahoe's out there, not to mention how difficult it is to maintain the cleanliness and integrity of the paint.
I'm also considering a dark blue as well. Maybe something a little more dark than the standard Chevy blue color. Who knows. Anyways, all of these are just thoughts, so I figure I'd bring this to the forum and get some of you guys' ideas. I want something that looks classy and clean, yet still goes well with my chrome grill and rims. I'm not into making my DD a desparate cry for attention, but rather, just want something that just looks really smooth. Thanks in advance for the help!

I've always liked a really deep, dark, candyish blue with chrome. Don't see many in that color.

Dark blue would look ill, so would black but I'm kinda biased. Not really that hard to keep black clean and you could paint the ss vents silver with a silver bowtie or something to make it pop.

I had planned on keeping the grill itself chrome with the chrome bowtie I already have, at least for now. I might look to color match the grill later, but I'm still undecided.

dark blue with a chrome gruille and colomatch the bowtie! Ive always liked dark blue definetly a dark blue would look sick on your truck. If you do start puttin on chrome accessories however dont over do it. but whatever you choose someone is always going to critize it so just make sure you dont regret it later.

Update

I haven't given much of an update on this for a while and decided to post up on it.
Much to my dismay, I still don't have my Tahoe back from paint, but the light is definitely at the end of the tunnel. My painter has had a number of personal problems, as well health problems that I won't get into, but they were legitimate none the less. If it was up to me, I would have had this thing back months ago, but for the price and the quality of work that's being done, I guess I can't complain too much. This thing also need A LOT more work than either of us initially anticipated, so that really added to the timeline as well.
I've been as patient as possible with him through the whole ordeal, which seems to be paying off since he is doing some extras to it for me at no extra charge. I originally wasn't going to have the SS bumper painted and put on, or have the grill color matched, and he's doing that for me. He's also installing and painting an HD hood for me, while only charging the price difference from an HD hood, to that of a stock one. He even shaved the roof rack, let me do a color change (including the jams) and is installing my HID's, fogs and LED's at not extra cost. He offered to smoke the LED's for free, but I'm still debating whether I want to do that or not.
Fortunately I have another truck that I can drive while this one is being done, but as you can imagine, I'm really ready to have the Tahoe back and put the garage queen back where she belongs. Hopefully I'll have some time to get by there later this week and snap a few pictures of it. I ended up going with a BMW Toledo Blue Metallic. It's a nice color that has a little bit of metallic in it, but I chose it because of the pearlescent (is this a word?) qualities of the paint. In some lights, it's really dark, and in others it's a steelish blue. I saw some test panels and am pretty happy with the results.
Anyways, stay tuned as I hope to have a finished product before long.
