Yeah, sounds sorta typical to mine. Once I "finally" do get it started, it heats up stuff, dries out, and runs like a champ...

Great to hear it's back on track. Great deal on the tow! ;)
Still running great! I'm thinking the mechanic actually 'looked into' the issue and found that the plug in the bottom of the distributor should be removed..

Haven't had a code pop up.. Took it for a 50 mile 'run' today, shut if off several times.. Didn't skip a beat!

Damn thing must need to be vented... Was driving me crazy!
Good luck with yours.. Love the Tahoe..!! Was almost ready to buy another Mazda! EEEEEEEEEkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.....

Update... 2/20/2010

Same issues again this year! Soon as the humidity goes up, the misfire starts.. Hasn't run since December.. waiting for a warm day to replace cap/rotor again.. Will try an upgrade on the cap to a "gold" brand from Autozone.. I have to 'do it myself'.. Can't afford these trips to the 'Mechanic' all the time.. Pensions s*ck!

Wish GM would just do a recall or something..

My experience with misfires in my "Hoe" was after replacing everything else I replaced the distributor.... Fixed it !! No misfires since... Funny thing about the 5.7. It will run with the distributor off a couple teeth also. (check engine light will come on, So assuming it didn't jump is a bad assumption..... Check the distributor before you spend money on wires, plugs, caps and rotors. It's easy to do.... be sure to inspect the teeth closely... if they are sharp or chipped, replace it..... It's not that expensive.... good luck

that is the going trend with the 99's i had the same issue and also found out that they eat caps/rotors and suck with the dampness. my brother, who is a mechanic, said he ran across it all the time and said to spray the cap and wires with silicone spray. it solved the dampness misfire. he suggested doing it either every or every other oil change, which i do and have not had an issue since. hope this helps
