Hello all.
03 Z71 5.3L 105K miles
We are relocating to Maine from Flori-duh. What coolant should we use in the colder climate? What coolant to water ratio is used? Should the coolant be used straight with no water?
We just had the trancmission serviced and all 4WD fluids changed as well.

Thank You, Don. :smiley-face-popcorn

Good day Don,

Although GM recommends DEX-Cool I have my doubts with it as it is known to eat up the seals in the cooling system itself. Whether you mix it with water depends on whether you purchase premixed 50/50 coolant regardless of brand, etc. It should always be mixed 50/50 or as close to that ratio as possible.

If I may make a suggestion, whether you purchase from me or not, the absolute BEST coolant on the market today is AMSOIL Antifreeze, check out the link below to find out more about the specifications, warranty, service intervals, etc. While obviously NOT the cheapest on the market, you definitely get what you pay for and I personally will ONLY run AMSOIL antifreeze in my vehicles. Period.

Having worked for GM for years i would use DEX-COOL as per manufactor specs. If you are wanting to use something diffrent just flush out all old coolant and put regular green in it.
