Hi newbie here just like my name says.
I found a 1997 Tahoe 4 door 4 wheel drive push button asking price $1,500.
Has 189,000 and some issues. Before I start I'm very mechanically inclined but it's with cars. This will be the first truck I've owned. I've been working on cars since I was 15 and I'm 35 now. Working on truck is mostly the same stuff just bigger parts and differentials and drive shafts... anyway.
I looked at it today and here are the issues:
1. Fuel gauge does not work it flips around in circles and points down and vibrates all crazy.
2. Hood latch handle inside broke off and hard to pop the hood
3. A/C needs charging
4. Climate controls have a problem
5. Driver window comes off track sometimes
6. Needs an O2 sensor
7. Tires will need replacing within a year
8. Radiator has a slow leak that I found looking at it where the trans line connects to it at the top right (when facing the engine compartment). Like Someone over tightened it and cracked it maybe?
So he wanted $1,500 for it and said he will knock $200 off because of the radiator.
I drove it on the highway and it has balls! Couldn't even tell the shift points just shifted without problems. Let it idle for like 5+ mins no engine missing, knocking or pinging. I checked the temp gauge and was 2 hash marks above the half the whole time doesn't seem to have a overheating problem.
The paint is pretty good and the undercarriage has regular surface rust no cancer.
Most of these issues are minor to me and an easy fix plus I don't mind working on vehicles it's a hobby of mine too.
Is it worth $1,300? I think so. I don't think you can get much these days that runs with a slipping tranny or engine troubles for $1,300. Maybe an economy car but definitley not an suv or truck.
For $1,300 I don't think that's much of a risk but looking for opinions. Thank you.:waytogo:
