Hi to all. I don't post up here too often. I currently own a 2004 Denali XL and have owned a 2002 Tahoe LT in the past. I love these trucks. I am thinking about picking up a 1996 2-door Tahoe 4x4. I don't know much about this generation but I love the 2-door look. Anything I should watch out for in terms of problems? I've never owned one past 80,000 miles. The prices for high-mileage trucks are really low.

Since the wife drives the Denali and I drive a 2000 Corvette FRC, I thought it would be fun to pick up an off-road truck as a daily driver. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you do find one, check for rear main seal leak, check that the transmission shifts smooth (in all gear settings: park, neutral, reverse, 1, 2 ,3 drive), check that the transfer case engages alright, look and see if any coolant is leaking from the seams of the intake manifold.

That covers most of the major problems these trucks tend to have of these model years.

There is one on Milwaukee's Craigslist really cheap (a broken relationship, bailing on the x's stuff). At under $1800.00, and if it has a clear title, hard deal to beat, even with the flight out and gas to drive back!

Prices for the 2 door are all over the place. Some people still think they're worth gold, and some people price them lower than actual value. If you do a search on autotrader, without any distance or price limites, you'll see some people are still asking close to or over $10,000!!!!!

I purchased my 99 Sport on sunday for $2,000. It took a bit of bargaining but I was happy with the deal. It has 150k, and needs and intake manifold gasket and a few other bits of maintenance. Luckily I do all the work myself, so I won't be paying out of pocket, but it will cost me a lot of time. As far as mileage goes, you'll prob. end up with one over 100,000 miles if you want to pay any sort of decent price. But don't worry, as long as its been taken care of, they'll last a heck of a long time. In the New Hampshire Craigslist, there is one with 277,000 miles, that I considered taking a ride up to see.

I love the truck, and will be its last owner. I've wanted one for at least 5 years. I've been actively searching for about a year now. In my searches, I found a lot of people think they are worth top dollar just because its two door. I met one person who had a smashed Yukon GT with the ad saying "best offer" Long story short, he was insulted with my offer and said he wouldn't take anything less than $3,000 for a truck needing a front end.

I am going to look at one this weekend. I heard that it has 180K on it and it is in decent shape. My friend is an auto broker and he is about to get one in on a trade. I am still waiting for more info from him and will keep you all posted.

Yeah, the prices are pretty ridiculous. Down by me the cheapest 2 door is 5000. And on that one it's book value is 2500!
I'm thinking about printing off the blue book estimate for it and bringing it over and showing him.
