The other night, I was applying leather lotion to the seats in my hoe. I was rubbing and rubbing but it seems like all I was doing was wiping it on and off. The leather didnt seem to be obsorbing the lotion. How is the leather on the seats treated? Is it obsorbing at all? Is it leather at all or some kind of synthetic material made to look like leather?:zav:

not sure what leather cond you were using but I have been using Meguiars Gold Class and it works really well. absorbs nice and you can tell the leather had softened up once applied and you let it set a little while. not sure about your specific ? but im sure someone will chime in shortly.

I don't know if that's the same as I've got on the '04 but it's not doing too well. Its starting to wear a little tiny hole in the front of the seat like where the legs go, and it is starting to get some pretty pronounced cracks on the front two seats. It may have something to do with the humidity in Alabama. I'm thinking about getting the front row recovered soon, I figure it'd be worth the $700 bucks to have brand new looking factory leather again. The back still looks like new, though, hardly ever been sat in!

im down the road from ya in Vestavia--
mine is the same--the drivers seat bottom is wearing on the left edge--cracking and peeling-i have found the seat bottom on a website for around $180 and will replace it myself--(the seat back covers are a little more $$$)

Danjelo---i started using Meguires--then when that was done i started using the Armor-all stuff inthe brown bottle--kinda like a lotion--i just use a terry-cloth rag, and work it into the leather as best as possible--

Sidenote**I have heard there were problems with the leather in these vehicles--i know my dealer history has the same seat i am having problems with having been "resewn" inthe past

local uphulstry shop says the good cheap way to do it is baby oil. greatly softens it up and your car smells like a babys a$$ for a few days. just let it soak in. this is what i use and it is by far the best thing i have tried so far.

I've seen those but I wondered whether or not they would be a perfect match or not? Let me know how yours go, I have the light gray leather, and since I don't want to replace all the rows, I was thinking I might ought to play it safe and just order GM factory ones.

Looking at other Tahoes, it looks like the leather on most of the 2004's look about the same, regardless of miles. I was surprised at how mine are going downhill at just 40k miles.

i think its just how long you sit in them and if your ever WET or how you get in and out, like do you lift up or slide out, the sliding is heavy wear on them.

sorry for the offtopic, but you dont drive much as i have 36k on mine and its only about a year and a half old. yours is 2 years older and only 40k miles, maybe they used a different leather in the older ones, as i only started using the cleaner last month, and it really did not need it, i just though it would preserve it. :yesnod:

I run all my seat warmers on high for about 5 minutes and then treat them with mother's leather conditioner. I used the same stuff in my tahoe about a dozen times and they were really soft and it pulled some cracks out of them, hoping to get the same out of the denali.

Maybe you rednecks should stop wearing Wal-Mart jeans that eat up your leather?

I use leather conditioner from Wilsons. I got a case of it from a friend, it works well.

You have to smooth it on and let it sit for a bit before wiping/buffing it out.

Ha ha, well I promise you I'm not your stereotypical Alabamian, no buck teeth and walmart clothes for me :wow:  .

Rollin Thunder,
That probably does have a lot to do with it. I slide in and out and spend a lot of my time sitting in traffic. I put about 30k miles on my cars a year, I just try and keep them off of the Tahoe, I probably drove the Mustang over 90% of the time until just a month or two ago and the miles on the Tahoe are starting to climb up on me now. Just got sick of sitting down so low and I'm ready to trade that Mustang for a Black LTZ as soon as I get the new ones paid off, I'm hoping somewhere between March and May. I think the Mustang GT has got 68k on it and my Tahoe just hit 43k on the way to the Chevy dealership to pick up the white one today.

Lexol 2 Part cleaner + conditioner

Lexol has a nice product and it is not really expensive. It is a two-part product. One is the cleaner and afterwords you use the conditioner.

Cleans really well and leaves the vehicle smelling like LEATHER. It is not oily either.

I've used the meguir's cleaner/conditioner in the past. This time I tried the Black Magic one and it seemed to work great. I also keep bath towels folded in half on the seat bottoms, that way they won't get worn out so easily and it keeps them clean. I clean the car, and I bring the towels in for a wash. Easy and cheap save. I never thought of running the heaters first though in the front, I will try that next time and see if it helps.
