Check the battery on the fob, sounds like it's going dead. The keyless should activate from a little further with a fresh battery.

My 98 Z71 is the same way. If you've gotten a new battery you're probably good. They just don't work that well and the ten feet you mentioned is kind of right sometimes.

You can try to reprogram it (try a search here, there was a discussion on it a few days ago) but I doubt it will change.

For what it's worth, our 2003 Tahoe works a lot better in that department.

Yeah, the range on these things sucks. Mine will not work if I am more than 10 or 15 feet away. I have a co-worker with a 2000 K2500 Classic pickup, and his is just as bad as my Tahoe. The 2002 Mazda Protege5 I used to own would work from at least 50 feet away. I could go into my house, walk to the back room and lock or unlock the doors from there. That thing had incredible range.

i get around 15-20 feet on a good day. i wouldn't want one that worked from far away. wouldn't want it to get accidentally tripped in my pocket while at work and someone steal everything in the 'hoe.

Same deal here. About 10 ft is all the farther I can get from my Yukon. Quite the contrast compared to my Ford Windstar and Focus, both of which have a factory keyless system that works about half a city block away.
