Hey guys! I have a 2001 Tahoe Z71 and the keyless entry remote broke, I ordered a new one and took it to the dealer to have it programmed and they said for some reason they couldn't. Charged me $50 anyway and said it'd cost $200 for diagnosis as it could be many things like my new stereo deck. Has this happened to any of you and how do you fix it. Keyless entry is nice and it sucks not being able to use it. I repaired the old remote but I'm guessing since they tried to program it it erased all past programs....needless to say I'm in between a rock and a hard place, please help! Thanks!

Read your owner manual and you could do it by yourself!

IF you have an aftermarket head unit, if it was not installed with the proper adapters then the dealership may not be able to program it, however, programming shouldn't be something that you have to take to the dealer to get done. The fob should have come with instructions on how to get that done, I have ordered them for customers and myself and they have always come with instructions. While that is the case, most vehicles vary in the procedure and like stated above you should check your owners manual for specific details for your vehicle. I definitely wouldn't pay the dealer a $200 diagnostic fee, I would find another dealer first if that is an option, or a shop that specializes in aftermarket stereos, etc.

Good luck...
