Kenwood DNX7100 and Dimmer Light

I just had a Kenwood DNX7100 navi installed in my 06 Tahoe and the dimmer light does not come on when the lights come on at night. When I had my stock radio in the truck the dimmer light would come on when the lights were on and then brighten up when the lights are out. Everything seems plugged and installed properly...Is there any way for the dimmer to work with the aftermarket unit?

I installed a 7100 on my 03 tahoe and mine does the same thing. i had called crutchfield and they said that probably the stock radio received the dimmer thru the data wire from the tahoe. they told me that even tho the kenwood had a dimmer wire there would be no corresponding wire from the connection coming from the truck. i am sure there is a way to do it but i dont know.

The illumination doesn't run through the databus. On the aftermarket harness between the deck and stock harness, there should be an orange wire (illumination) and orange with black stripe (negative dimmer). Connect the illumination/dimmer wire from the head unit to the corresponding wire(s) on the aftermarket harness.
