it makes your engine loud in the cab when your trying to pass someone ..aluminum pipe heats up real nice hense the warm air. Oil filter if you have any warranties left on the truck anything to do with the maf sensor including tranny shifting engine operation just went out the window with it on .

They still warrant with a dry filter. i can post the TSB on how a dealership is told on how to deal with an aftermarket oil'd filter :)

I heard the other k&n series is a little better since the pipe does not heat up.

but ......it makes one hellva difference in lower RPMs engine response is great ..i'm actually pulling mine off and it'l sit in the shed cause i'm looking at a volant :)

Enjoy!

I have enjoyed mine... Make sure you oil the filter very, very lightly. I have gotten better fuel mileage and more power.

Or buy an aem 21-8000dp

Better non-oil synthetic filter with a polished aluminum tube, the temperature of the tube is irrelevant to the performance of the system in both metal and plastic btw.

I have the same AEM intake in my 06 rig, and the 21-8000D will also work on your 01. I believe any Tahoe's from 2000-2006 will use that product number. As far as the AVM, I don't know what that means. I haven't been able to find any site with that AVM in front of the part number. The best place to find out the right part number for your rig is directly on the AEM site. You can either get the 21-8000DP (polished) or the 21-8000DC (chrome), but they both look the same IMO.

The aem 21-8000 intake works on any 99-07 classic 4.8, 5.3, or 6.0 1/2ton or 3/4 ton truck. All the lsx truck motors have the same intake manifold so they all interchange, the new bodies require the 21-8023 and you will add a "DC" or "DP" to the end of said part number depending on preference of silver painted or polished finish. The AVM you are thinking of is probably a misconception of AEM on your part or some place online is adding their own prefix to the part #.

So how do you like it? Is it worth the $200+? Noticeably different in engine performance?

I noticed a good gain in power, smoothed out the powerband and picked up some top end 5krpm+. I got the system for free but I'd buy one in a heartbeat just for the filter (figure you'll spend $40-$50/filter how many times and the aem is ridiculously easy to clean).
