Alrite, well whats going on guys, you all know me by now.. the obnoxious guy who makes tons of little threads. But i got another for you all.. Last nite was working on the hoe putting some Monroes in. Dam i cant stand the undercarriage on my truck. F*cking rusty as tits even with 88,000 miles on it. I had a pretty hard time getting the shocks on and off. crap falling in my face and junk. But do you guys think its worth getting a 95-00 tahoe/yukon/denali and finding one from the south, or just take the frame off the body and cleaning it up.. Id do all the work myself so no paying anyone anything. I have a lift and crap.. Think its worth doing or what??

Second question leads me too, Rims for my truck... Should i get rims or should i sell the truck and find a cleaner truck??? heres the rims im about to pick up this weekend.. I was going to paint the inside of the "star" design orange like my truck and get these polished up real nice..

and ill look a little like this..

First things first, those rims will not directly bolt onto your truck. Your truck, if its a 2wd has a 5x5 or if its a 4x4 6x6.5 bolt pattern. Dont let the term universal fool you. 2 bolt patterns @ most is what they fit, and I am willing to bet 5x114.3 and 5x100 are those wheel bolt pattern.

Second, the frame on your truck now, even though rusty, will last a LONG time.

It is very rare to have that bolt pattern and those rims on an olds aurora. I'm not arguing with you in the least, just letting you know to be aware. Hopefully you have seen them and will have a chance to test fit on your truck before you buy them.

Even in the south their rusty. Let me go take a pic of my 07 and show you the under carrage. The drive shaft and engine have already rusted. This truck has not so much as touched a grain of salt, Never in salt water, never driven in ice or snow. But even the little snow we get, never get much salt.

Metel rusts, no way around it. It may rust quicker in the great salty north. But it still does. I think of it this way. Rust is just another protector for the frame, adds a new layer of strenth. If you see it on the body, its worse than cancer, but on the frame i would not worry one bit, Not like people are under there judging you. I mean like "omg I dont like him, his undercarrage is all rusty and crap" " girls stay away, his fully boxed frame on his truck is all rusty" Or " Im sorry, but we have to let you go, your under carrage was found Rusty on our last under your vehicle inspection, you have 2 hours to collect your things"

Dont worry about it LOL

if it bothered me that much, i'd take the body off and clean it... especially if you like the truck.

as for the rims... i actually like them(with the paint). i wouldn't put them on mine.. but, your truck is totally different from mine. :D

thanks guys for all your input on this whole situation ive been having.. Ijust dont like the rust since it makes everything 5 times harder to get off and change.. bolts, nuts, lines all that stuff.. But i guess if you replace one thing at a time, then the rust will go away.. control arms, shocks, springs, that kind of stuff. you know?? well maybe its not as bad as it sounds.. but i think i might still clean the piss off of it.. I POR 15'd it awhile ago. it helped by making it black, but never "rustproofed" it..

i agree, all undercarriages are rusty,my hoe came from texas, only spent one winter in ohio and looks underneath like it spent its whole life here.body is completely rust free except where previous owner hit deer and dented fender but thats gonna get replaced.i'd keep the hoe you got,i used to work at a dealership as a service mgr and saw a few frames changed out in my shop for collision damage and it is a major undertaking even with a lift

dude! awesome!
congrats on getting accepted there. I know you'll be using your truck as the class projects, so I hope you get a lot of good information from that place.

I think you should take your frame to the next level if you can. Until you can get the whole frame off the truck, do what you can to stop your rust problem/ I will take off my trailer hitch and scrub it down with some air tools and then get it powdercoated and slap it back on. it;ll never rust again I hope.
maybe you could do that kind of thing.. do the front control arms.. then the rear axle, then the driveshaft, etc, etc. and finish with the frame when you can.

I think a 6" lift and 37" would be better. O yea and some rims too. :D

No way in hell is a lift going on my truck with the frame as its looking now.. Icant see my frame how it lies right now, and if i put a lift on it- ahh id kill that truck looking at that frame..:cuss:
