What is the way to do it?

I just want to raise the front a little to match the rear.

I trust the members here to have better suggestions than the guys at the Off-Road place down the street. I'm sure they'll have all kinds of suggestions... but I need some that I can do myself. I'm not paying them $80 an hour labor if I can do the same thing myself.

Thanks in advance!

i am a gm tech and just leveled mine. go to a gm dealer and have them look up the torsion bar keys for your truck. there should be 6 different ones. tell them you whant the white ones the hex is cut at a different angle wich gives you more lift without overcranking the bars. they cost 18.00 each.

Not the way I wanted it to, but I'll get her fixed after the holidays.

Bahollis, you can try to tighten the bolts a few turns to raise it and see how that works out to your liking. But like brodg suggested, pick up a pair of the GM torsion keys if it doesn't look like it's right for you once you adjust it some.

Go to the junkyard and buy some stock torsion keys from a pre 04 torsion bar suspension f150 or buy the aforementioned white keys to raise the front. If you want to lower the truck you just need some stock 3/4 ton keys, I'm running decranked keys from my brother's 03 duramax and he is using a customer's stock 1/2ton keys we had left from an install. They also make coil spacers for the rear, get some keys and crank that bitch up with some rear spacers and 285's. Any alignment shop should charge around $200 or less for install with alignment, you may want to run a longer shock due to the increase in stroke. I'd buy some oru 60006cfr shocks from a 4wheel parts, they're made by edelbrock and were the only gas shocks that wouldn't blow on my brothers dmax in under 3 months of use. Just make sure you have the standard shocks and not the auto ride, otherwise you will need some shock extensions or just buy the $200 readylift kit (part # 66-3000) that comes with the keys and extensions.

How do these torsion keys work? Anyone have a pic they can post up? Everyone makes it sound easy to do.

Also, will it require an alignment afterward?

Thanks

HELP!

OK, I got some good info on this... but in the end how hard is it to install the torsion keys? I'm OK with taking things apart and putting them back together, but I'd need some sort of visual of what I'm doing first.

I want to lift the front end and get rid of the rack on my Hoe, and if it's doable with a jack, wrench, and a little time I wanna do it myself. If I could get these white keys for $10 a pop and do it myself that would be sweet. Now, if I have to get an alignment done afterward, it may be worth it to have someone else do it. This is my daily driver, so I can't screw it up!

Also, why are some leveling kits $250 or more when the keys from GM are $10? What's the real difference? Some of these sets I have seen look like this

What's the benefit of this vs. the keys?

Please help. I have $$$ burning a hole in my pocket!!:mad2: :yesnod:

Leveling the Hoe

I'm going to call some places after Christmas. I hope to find one out here that will do it for a little extra!

before u go spend money on keys go and see how much u can get out of ur stock keys. u should be able to get 1.5" out of them. if u want more then get some ford keys and/or some rc bars.

Yesterday, i cranked my bars until the hoe sat about level. Looks great and the ride feels the same to me. But, to me, there is just something about having them cranked almost all the way that i dont like. One day down the road when my hoe has some more miles i will probably want that adjustment after my bars have started to sag.

So, I just ordered the ford keys and will be doing the install this weekend or next week. i've not done much work with torsion bars before, but doesn't look too bad to do.
