i also have an '04 z71 and i bought a k&n series 77 cai and the gibson extreme dual exhaust. I honestly can't say i tracked my mileage well enough to know a difference, plus i put the cai 2 weeks after i bought the truck. I have bought k&n products before and in my gp i saw a great increase in mileage. I like what i bought and if i had to do it again i might have gone with the brute force from aem, most here seem to be between the k&n or aem

I havnet upgraded my exhaust nor my intake yet. I may go with a volant when I decide to do it, and still not to sure about exhaust (my truck is lowered and clearance is a isssue) For the best "bang for the buck", I would consider a custom tune from Blackbear performance. There a perfered vendor here and I've heard great things about there work. Mileage and power should be increased.

Do the CAI increase the voume of the vehicle? I like the quiteness of the vehicle which is one of the reasons I bought mine, but don't want it to sound like some tricked out ride.

It will a little bit but not to much, but also made my own cai using the stock air box & a drop in K&N filter & the pipe i made is 4'' around! I haven't heard be any louder,if i open the hood i can! I also have duels on mine which is not at all to loud nice & mellow. I running a Flowmaster 50 SUV Series Singal in duel out I love its perfect!

Most engine modifications will show very little return unless you take your Hoe to a dyno and have it custom tuned (so that the vehicle can take advantage of mod).

I have a 2000 'Ho with the 5.3. If you've ever looked at the factory intake you can see how it flattens out over the top and there is also this great big dead end pocket that drops off of it in the middle. My understanding is this is intended to be a sound baffle, and from my personal experience, it is. I put an AEM Brute Force on (I like and have used K&N as well as AirRaid but I liked the idea of not having to oil it) and there is a definite sound difference. At cruising speed or putting around town you won't notice it much but under even moderate acceleration, when the cruise kicks in to carry you over a hill, accelerating to get around someone, catch a light, or get up to highway speeds on the on ramp, there is a definite, noticeable drone under the hood. It doesn't bother me, and like I said, it's only under acceleration, but it is definitely there.
