This is the first vehicle I have owned with this feature and it works so well. It has been raining here in SOCAL and I did a hard launch while making a right hand turn to see what it would do, and the hoe just locked up the rear and took off on it's intended course no problem, this stuff works!

It is a nice thing to have when you need it. I remember going up a grassy hill when we went camping one time. I wanted to see the difference with the TC on and off. Tires spun too easy w/o it and I couldn't get enough traction. But with the TCS on, went up the hill much easier without a lot of tire spin.

All of my cars have Stabilitrak and I think it's an awesome system. I've literally been driving in the rain for 3 days solid and it really helps and lets you know when you're being a little too agressive. I haven't really used it in ice or snow but I have a feeling it would be a good thing to have if you lived in that type of weather.

I hear many stories on this forum of how well the 4X4 Tahoe's do in the snow and ice and TC really makes a difference, it doesn't give you a license to get stupid, but it really makes a difference.

it has saved me so many times, in the snow and ice in illinois i used 4wd twice, once to just show off and clobber a snow bank, and another time when i was actully driving threw water up to the floorboards. as the snow had melted and the drainage system was clogged for somereason. other than that, the black ice felt like try pavement to me.

I have a question for those snow drivers out there, what would be better in snow, a sedan (say a Lucerne or CTS or something) or a 2wd Tahoe? Is a big heavier car better or worse than a small 2wd?

i would say that if it was not more than a foot of snow the lucerne should be fine, as any more and she would bellow out no matter how good your traction control was. the higher up the vehicle the more snow you can tackle. BUT. the tahoe is RWD and the lucurne and CTS are FWD, thats not really apples to apples drive train wise.

fwd is better than RWD in snow, but 4wd is WAY better than FWd in snow.

best snow monster is a 4wd tahoe with stabilitrak

That's a good point, I wasn't thinking about FWD.

Bottom line, would I last a week in say Chicago with one of my 2wd Tahoes  ?

i never needed it for the streets when i was in chicago last week. but im not sure how quick the teams are to clear the roads after a fresh snow storm.

As far as snow is concerned I think it is more the weight of the car that matters. If you have a RWD Tahoe with TC on you'll do better than a FWD Lucerne in the snow, no problem.

TC is a huge benifit. my 1999 suburban 2500 was 2wd with no traction control. back then we actully got SOME snow. but mostly as far as weight she did better than most other trucks, but i never wanted 4wd more then and traction control.

My 2000 Z71 didn't have TC either, I used to be able to burn out if it was wet out without having to push a button :smilielol: .

with the 7.4 454 she would burn rubber like nothing from a dead stop. i almost wish i kept that truck. but she had alot a hard miles on her. But even when i push a button on the 06, she still wont burn out. but i can do 120 like nothing. :smilielol:

Ha ha, I can get the tires spinning if I turn and floor it after I push the button but that's about as good as she'll do. That 2000 Tahoe I had only had like 75k miles on her but it was starting to look old because the 2000 Z71's were like the 1999 body style while the LS and LT were the 2000-2006 body. Plus, I stole my 2004 with the employee discount.
