When I switch the hvac knob to a certain position, ie floor, air also blows out of other places. The only positions that actually seem to work 100% are floor and defrost. Is the unit shot? Ideas? Thanks,
Adam

in my experience with GM vehicles air blows thru the vents even if it is in the off position. i doubt you are having a problem, it is likely normal engineering slackness from GM

I second that, depending on how hard it blows from the other places. I have had air go through all sorts of places even when it was in the off position for all my vehicles ('81 burb, '93 Kon and now my '97 hoe).

i asked about this kind of once in the past. For mine, it would switch from the floor to defrost to vents all slowly. I guess there a flapper thingy in there that has trouble. It was called a mode actuator. I didnt address it yet becuase now its warm and I dont run the heat etc. Im sure Ill check it this fall.
