Well I actually brought it in to a mechanic I know that use to work for Gm and he says its my torque converter. When you her the hum and feel the vibration at 55- 60 mph and drop the shifter into 3rd gear the nosie completely stops but continues right when you pop it back it the main drive gear. Should I bring the print out back to the GM dealer and argue? The GM dealer definately hears the problem, but say they dont know how to fix it.

Have you brought your Tahoe in for service for this problem?

No I haven't had time to. Maybe in the next couple of weeks I will but I am going to have my mechanic look at it before I decide to. I wanna make sure I'm not going crazy. I don't really drive my tahoe that much. Chicago weather just gets everything dirty.

I called to dealer again and explained I went to a mechanic and that the mechanic said it was definately the torge convertor shutter and they stated that thats what they thought but cant fix it. I asked then why didnt you tell me thats what it was when I picked up the truck and he didnt say much except they cant fix it and it wont harm the truck. This is bullcrap when they tell you "well we hear it and feel it and thats wierd but we cant fix it. Is there an 800 # I can call to complain about this???? Im so pissed!!!!

Had a humming noise in my 07 yukon denali that started at 55 and continued to about 80 then would vanish. vehicle had about 35,000 on it when this started. Dealer told me it was an unbalaced tire, etc Blah blah blah. I continued to drive it and the condition got worse. Had a friend look at it that is a racecar builder and he found that the U joints were shot. Took it back to the dealer and they looked and agreed. Replaced them and the humming was gone. I'm now at 82,000 and the humming is starting to return. I think that this vehicle is going to be a U joint eating machine. I think the cause is a combination between a lag going from 4 to 8 cylinder mode that shocks the driveline, and a clunky 6 speed tranny. I have so far been less than impressed with my Denali. I have a stack of work orders two inches thick. I am a traveling saleman so I put on mostly highway miles. The vehicle has never been off the pavement.

If you're getting a lag in the V8/V4 shift, then something is wrong. It is seamless when working correctly and only a very slight change in exhaust note and the indicator on the DIC is the way to tell.

I didn't know that the 6 spd was available 'til the '09s.
