I have a 2004 Tahoe LT, the odometer just hit 42,000 yesterday. I really like my Tahoe and plan to drive it as my primary car until it hits about 100k miles, but keep it as a second truck after that. I have always had the oil changed every 3k-3500 miles and taken great care of the truck, so generally how many miles can you put on a Tahoe before they start getting loose and begin needing major repairs?

depends on how you take care of it, if you take care of it well, most likley with some repairs here and there i would not be surprised if you saw 400k, with no repairs or serious ones (like tranny or engine) 200k but in an older k5 blazer i had it went to about 300k on origional drive train. (including engine and tranny), i did some stuff to the interior though.

Don't think I'll ever put that many on it  ! I was thinking maybe 150k. Thats good news, though! I do take good care of it, frequent oil changes, top brands of gasoline (93 octane every third fill up) and whatever the dealer tells me I need to have done (even though I'm sure I'm getting ripped off :p .)

I plan on getting the new body style after it has been out a few years and keeping the '04, maybe in 2009, but for the time being, I'm happy with the one I've got.

I'm at 121k and seeing my first real set of issues.

1. Coolant issue - pinhole leak in the radiator. Hopefully that's it
2. Electrical seems spotty, lights dim when the stereo is loud or I roll down more than one window at a time - plan on hopefully fixing with a new alternator and redtop battery to go along with the new DVD system.
3. Rear driver's side window is stuck up, but will intermittently come down. Switch is pulling power, motor seems fine. No clue what's causing that.

Every other problem I'm having is maintenance related:

1. Shocks leaking fluid
2. Brakes, specifically rotors
3. Fluids to be changed
4. Tune-up needed

However, thanks to these fine folks here (or devilish little jerks if you look at my wallet) I've ordered Bilstien shock set, new rotors, pads, and lines from SSBC, and am about to pull the trigger on a catback system, deciding which is the problem at this point.

I'm going to try to get this baby past the 250k mark with no issues and regular maintenance.

BTW, 5,000-7,000 mile intervals for oil changes is sufficient if you use synthetic. You don't need 93 octane either. If you're getting top-tier gasoline (you have QT over there in Bama?), the 87 and 89 have the same detergent power as the 93. Only use 93 if you have pinging issues with the other grades.

.

I have had that for quite a while with the lights dimming when I roll down the wondows or when Stabilitrak activates. I figured it was just normal and never thought much about it, is it not? I might as well get it fixed if its not, I have the GM 100k warranty.

Well, I use regular oil and change it when my OLM reads 50% or I get to 3,500, whichever is first. Yes, we do have QT in Birmingham. I always use Shell gas, though, I get free Shell gas as one of my benefits at work, so thats why I fill up with V-Power gas every third fill up, I figure it can't hurt, plus I'm not paying for it :D !

I have 180k on my 02 and I change my oil every 8k miles. The only things I have replaced is the brakes, plugs and wires(at 130K) and a alternator. I had to have me transmission rebuilt and a new rear end but that was because of having a heavy of a foot and not learning when to release it lol cmon 500k

Keeping it regularly maintained and not abusing it will be the biggest determining factors on how long it will last. Main things would be oil and filter changes for the engine and transmission. And keeping the chassis and steering components lubed will help those components last longer and stay tighter throughout the years.

What do you mean by abusing it? Gunning it every once in a while to pull out in front of a car or something doesn't do any harm does it?

We get 265,000 out of our Sheriff Tahoe's, you know how cops drive.....

We have 124,000+ on our Yukon, not one problem. I had a leak in the cab and discovered the wire from XM that I put in the rubber trim re-directed the water down the gutter (rubber) and right into the cab. So...Now I feel better about it.

No. By abuse I mean like punching it off the line every other start and carelessly bashing off road or something like that. The ocassional punch it to pass someone or to get in front of someone real quick isn't going to amount to anything harmful.
