just a simple question, how do i know if i have a block heater, kinda cold here (30), and it would be nice to have a warm engine to have heat a little quicker.

edit- i did some manual checking and found your not supposed to use it, if it is above 0 degrees, but i would still like to know if i have it. THANKS

RPO code is KO5. Sorry, that's all I have, as I have never seen or worked on one since I've only lived in either Texas or Florida since I was young.

It's not that you're not suppose to use it. It's that the plug has a thermostat that doesn't kick on until the outside temp hits 0F. I ordered one with mine. The cord assembly as shipped is extremely difficult to find. The cord is rather short, is the tightly folded, and with the plug, is ty-wrapped to a wire harness running along the frame on the driver's side. There is just enough length to get it to poke out of the hole on the lower front fascia (the tow hook holes..?) The heating element is rated at 1000 Watts, which is a pretty healthy power consumption; approx. $.14 an hour where I live. Prior to my Tahoe, I had a diesel pickup, and I'd plug that in when temps up here hit the low teens. But that heater was only rated at 750W and would work at any temp. Yes, it was very nice to crank it over at -10F, and have it start like a Spring day. Can't say there was a lot of instant cab heat though.
