Did I see a thread somewhere talking about how to pull your antennal down through the hole and lay along the inside of your fender? If anyone has done this does it do anything to your radio reception?

There's a thread like that on gmfullsize.com. some say they lost a little reception but after grounding the base of the antenna to the base where it is normally screwed in, it made the reception better. Me personally, I wanna do it, I don't listen to the radio anyway.

Thanks. If you do post up and tell us how it went. If I do I'll do the same.

If you removed the antenna, did you simply unscrew it from the base, leaving the base in place and/or if not, how did you handle the hole.

I have not looked, but am wondering if there is enough room to put a retractable?

So do you listen to your radio, did it affect the reception?
I removed it at the dealer, still gets decent reception but I rarely listen to the radio. I had a stubby 3" on my obs tahoe and it was just as clear as the stocker in place.

I relocated my antenna under the hood and replaced the cover with one from an Escalade (without the hole). I lost some reception but most of the close local station come in OK. I listen to Sirius most of the time anyway so it's no big loss for me.

I think I read grounding the base of the antenna helps if you haven't done so already.

When I removed the antenna mast, I used a new windshield mount amplified antenna. I mounted it at the very top edge of the windshield right at the edge of the headliner and just plugged it into the radio, so you can't even see it. Reception is great and the look is much cleaner without an ugly antenna mast sticking up through the cowl. I listen to XM mostly, but having the radio stations come in strong when I check local traffic is still nice.
