I just ordered a kit from ddm 6000k 35w. I have a few questions before it gets here, I have a 2003 Tahoe LT btw. How will the "auto on" feature work with the new HID's I have heard it works fine from some people but others say you have to manually turn them on and off. Also, does the DDM kit require you attach to the positive battery terminal and ground each light or does the ballast connect directly to the factory light plug?

The auto lights are preety much a crap shoot. Some work just fine, others screw up horribly.

Ddn is standard plug and play with optional harness. Harness is only really needed for 55 w kits imo. But all kits run better with the harness.

Forgive the ignorance here lol but what do you mean by harness? Wiring for battery to ballast?

The harness will bypass your stock wiring and allow you to connect directly to the battery. My kit came with one. But what I understand, not all kits do.

All you have to do is replace the stock headlight assemblies with the ones you just bought. You do not need HID in order for the projectors to work, if thats what you were asking.

Plus the HIDS you ordered are h11 (stock 07 and up tahoe) and those housings you ordered use H1, the bulbs will not fit in to the housing.

Since you already have the HID kit and the housings, I would use them as the lighting preformance is alot better. But there is a thread here on how to remove your HIDS.

You can put HIDS in the stock housings, but the projectors you ordered are going to be better, stick with what ya got. IMO

Just a heads up, our housings ARE NOT MEANT to house HID's, the wiring is NOT designed to hold the capacity of HID's when you turn them on you pull the most amps and I have seen on the other forum I belong to, since I do HID/projector conversions on the side for a little extra money, people have caught their cars wiring harness on fire/burnt it and destroyed them since they did not have a wiring harness, Here is a picture of one, same one I built.

I have one for my Yukon, I made it myself with parts I ordered. It is not hard and you will save yourself in the long run and protect your investments with using a harness that may run you about 30 bucks on ebay. its worth it, trust me I have dont HID's for about 10 years now and a harness is a definate YES.

also here is a little site that I know the creator of that talks about types of HID's.

Also, when you buy HID's you should stick with 4300k. I know 6k, 5k look cool and all, but your output will not be the same compared to a 4300k or stock color. Reason being is that you lose lumens once you go above 4300k. 5000k is ok but I run 4300k D2S bulbs in the housing before of the yukon, I rebased the bulb with a 9006 fitting to work but if you use the bulb more than 100 hours bulbs will what they call COLORSHIFT! Phillips makes a 85122 and a 85122+ , the + is a little better bulb but I think the 85122 shows more color once color shifted and shows blues when driving from oncoming traffic. Osram also makes bulbs, I have seen that Acura likes to use them a lot in their cars, TL, TSX, these will give you purple hues once they completely color shift. If you would like to read more about this, go to here

I have the same name on there as on here.

5000k is whitest and has the highest light output. 4300 is yellowish and has about 10-15% less light. 6000k is blueish with about 10-15% less light.

not true

4300 has the most lumens. Trust me I have been doing HID's for 10 years.

Here is a picture to show you the lumen output.
p7182995.jpg

4300K is the bulb the OEMs use. It has the highest lumen output at 35W ballasts and will collor shift to cooler colors over time(white after use for 100 or so hours, just like 5000k). The 5000K were designed as replacements to match color temp of existing aged 4300's.

As color temps go up the lumen efficiency goes down.

Here is a page from my other forum that I belong to that they spent a long time doing to show you the basics of HID's and that 4300k is the most you can get for output for lumens, aftermarket bulbs are a waste of money because they never colorshift properly, only way to go is a OEM brands and get it rebased, which isnt that hard at all.

Ok. I've read several places that 5000k has the highest output, but it doesn't really matter enough to me to start a fight over. :)

All I know is that the vvme.com 5000k hids on my Tahoe are whiter and brighter than the OEM hids on my previous car.

IM GONNA NEED HELP ON HOW TO PUT THESE IN.....

http://www.fenderworld.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/5242963/vpcsid/0/SFV/32602

CUZ IDK WHERE 2 START! WILL I HAVE TO TAKE THE BUMPER OFF!??? IT SEEMS PRETTY STR8 FORWARD ON HOW TO PLUG THEM IN...

Look at my Lighting Install Write-Up in the 07 Technical section for help on HID's after all I made it to help people like you!

Also it doesn't matter what HID's you get because from 3000k-12000k are ALL atleast 2 times brighter than stock so unless you are just obsessed with how much Lumen output you get it doesn't matter, I do suggest not passing 8000k!
