Hello, just bought 01 yukon 4X4 with 100k and have started to notice a hard to explain "jerking" or "binding" noise when in reverse or drive and slowly turning the wheel to the left or right. You can actually feel it when it happens. I have not had the time yet to watch it from the outside of the vehicle when the problem happens. If anyone has heard of this type of problem I would love to get this problem fixed. By the way I love this forum.

Mine does the same, as well as everyone else with 4x4. It happens when you have it in auto 4x4 and the front wheels tries to engage due to the extreme angle. I leave mine on 2 wheel hi unless the conditions make me throw it in auto. Change it to 2 wheel hi, and then make the same turn, you will see what I'm talking about.

Copper&BlackYukon, I've checked and It's not in 4wheel auto it's in 2 hi. That's what's got me so confused about this problem.

tybardy, Is there anyway I could check and tell if it is the intermediate shaft? I can't feel anything in the steering wheel when the problem happens.

It's hard to explain. I would say that I can feel it in my seat. It sorta feels like something is binding up. Could it be cv joints? I'm going to get the wife tomorrow to drive it up and down the drive way and see if I can see anything.

man.. i definetly sounds like your 4wd is trying to kick in, what you are discribing sounds like exactly that.

other than that, i am at a loss... i dont think your cv joints would jolt around like that but than again i have never had a cv joint go out in a large vehicle like these. if you have ever heard a cv joint ever in your life i am pretty sure you would know it every time for the rest of your life, also easy to figure out, get under there and check to see if your cv boots are still packed with lube.

thanks, for your help, have you ever heard of one doing this? I guess the only way to see if it's in 4wheel is to jack it up and see. I've looked at the cv boot's and they looked ok.

Hello, just an update to this problem I'm still having. Still making the same jerking noise, maybe getting a little louder. Just found out whenever I put it in 4 wheel auto the sound is 50 times worse. I have been working alot lately and have not had much time to look under left front and try and figure out what this is. Does anyone have any idea's what it could be?
