looking for some help... have a 98 2 door Tahoe and was wondering about where I could get a new heater control cluster, online??? Also when I bought the rig the heater didn't work but after playing with the wires today I got the fan to come on in all positions but the heat doesn't ever come, just blows cold air... any help would be great. Thanks. Yes I warmed up the rig first. lol

Blend Door

I had the problem of my Tahoe not heating. It turned out to be the blend door actuator. I believe there is a post on the site somewhere. It is tricky to remove and replace.

Go to a walk in junk yard if there is one near you. Or go to ebay one just sold for $87.50

Well today i installed a replacement heater control panel in the dash and the air never heated up. I played with the other switches and all of the other functions work. I am guessing that i should replace the heater water control valve next. Also I felt the hoses running to the heater water control valve and they were both cold, this was after the rig was completely warmed up, no water flow from the motor to the valve.... and other thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

im having the same problem with mine. to the T! lol
another tech. at work thought it might work to bypass that blend door with open tubes while i need the heat. havent really thought about it as far as it working, but i have tomor off and im gonna mess with it again.
i already flushed the core out. a bunch of shyt came out with that, and i still have no heat. itll be warm when i first turn the fan on, n the 5 sec. later, nothing but cool air. driving me crazy!

I am a Heating and cooling Pro. I had every problem in the world with my 1997 deville.

It is probably a trermostat. It atkes alot to make this egine to overheat. It is air cooled and it is winter so just as long as it has water on the engine and air it won't overheat but it will not have any water flow to give you any heat.

1. Early in the morning check Water level and make sure it is ice free. You should use 60%/40% dexcool.
2. The temp is getting cold and all it all takes is one cold night to freeze up.
3. Check the engine fan and make sure that water pump pulley is spinning.
and make sure your passenger floor is not wet.

If water pump is not spinning then the wawter pump is frozen. bad coolant mixture
If you passenger floor is wet then the heater core is gone bad. bad coolant mixture

4. If ice was noticed when you took the radiator cap off wait tell it warms up meaning temparute in the air and change thermostat and drain radiator not the engine and put 100% dexcool and 100% dexool in overflow. Let the engine run for 15 minutes and it should be okay.

after messing with it this morning I am begining to believe that it is the blend door actuator. I let my rig warm up and the lines got warm going to the heater core, althought I had to make the heater water controller work manually with my thumb. The vacuum line that goes to the thing mounted to the firewall doesn't have any vacuum. The line coming from the engine does have vacuum but the other line isn't getting the vacuum to run the heater water controller. I don't know???????????? any more thoughts....

not sure. i just have a vacuum line from the intake manifold to the little motor and then one from the motor to the blend door acuator. i still cant figure mine out. i did the same thing today with pushing the valve in with my thumb, no change in the heat at all. driving me CRAZY

Peterey , Your heater core is plugged!!
If you can't change it keep flushing the core out with hot water and vinegar in both directions until the scale quits coming out. If you can let the vinegar soak in it over night then flush it out. You are getting some coolant passing through to heat soak the core when the blower is off thats why you get a little heat when you turn the blower on, but not enough coolant to maintain the the heat. (The scale is much the same as that in a tea kettle.)

Oh and may seem simple but make sure your coolant level is up and heat cycle it with the rad cap off to burp the air out.

well I'm stuck now, I have replaced the therastat, heater water controller valve, flushed the system and checked both actuators, ( one is above the gas pedal and the other is located behind the aux power outlets). Both are functioning when I mess with the dials. The most that will happen is that when I put the heater control on hot it blows average tempature air out. I don't know what else it could be.... I did look at the wiring diagram and it shows 3 actuators and not 2, which is all I found. Does anybody have any more info of how I could figure this out? Thanks

Rage ; It looks like the temp control is on top of the plenum (centerish) straight up (about ) from the lower air flow control. That is where I think is the mystery 3rd control is. Now not sure how you get to it; maybe through the back of the glove box, pull stereo out ?? Last ditch pull the dash!

I'll do a little more lookin' , poke around my truck and see if we can't narrow down a little easier path.
