I also get the hard shift between 1st and 2nd. It's usually fine in town but if it's hot out and i've been on the highway for awhile it seems to do it. It's been like that for about 20k Not sure what to do either, fluid change? fluid/filter change? full out flush? or leave it?

I have not tried this with my '99 Tahoe, but with my car, I had the same problem. I took it to the best transmission shop in town, and they emptied out the old fluid, filled up the transmission with new fluid, but didn't flush it out forcefully. It worked like a charm. My Tahoe just proceeded to destroy it's transmission, so instead of a $50 bill, I was blessed with a $1,000 bill...and that's with a discount! These trucks, you love to hate them, and hate to love them! Good luck...

the only thing holding your tranny together is the old fluid which contains particals and other debris. If you put new fluid in, you are essentially adding THINNER fluid, and I guarantee you the tranny will slip worse, if not fail completely. DO NOT change the fluid!
