I have the Denali 6.0 2003 model. I have the magnaflow installed. I got a LOT of complaints from my kids and my GF this past weekend regarding the drone.

I am sure that there are many on here that have had this and has found a way to quiet it down without removing the muffler.

What exactly did they do? Is there any material that you can spray like an undercoating of some sort? Anything that can be wrapped around the muffler to keep the nice low rumble but get rid of the drone?

Please let us know!!!

Which one did you get? I got the single in, single out 22" muffler (not cat-back) and it's noticable, but not annoying. My wife is EXTREMELY picky, and said it's pretty quiet. She did notice today it was pretty loud, but she also said she was hurrying to get home (probably foot in it quite a bit). It's pretty tame until you get on it, but even then it isn't as loud as Flowmaster...

Take a long trip and wait for it after about 3-4 mos about 1,000 miles later it will definetly break in. i got the 6.0 denali awd and beleive me I had my second thoughts about it too but after a couple mos it quieted down and only gets loud when your over 2100 rpm's which you ought to know if you are going over that RPM your starting to get on it or your taking off a little fast!

Hmmmm... I have to work at not getting over 2000RPM's. I would not say that you're "getting on it" or "taking off too fast" if you reach past 2000RPM's... I'd say that's right past 3000.... but on the other hand, when you're pulling hills, etc, you should be dropping gears and hitting 3000-4000RPM's.

Ah... dual exhaust is generally louder than single, I do believe. It may be a different length (shorter = louder), etc. I've watched my driving and have found that I truly have to try to keep it under 2000 rpm's. Even "easy" driving, I get to about 2500 in first gear.

Most of the kits for these trucks will use a 22" stainless muffler with either single inlet single out (for the 4.8 and 5.3) or dual inlet single out (for the 6.0). My magnaflow is a bit annoying around 82 or so but I've heard some flowmasters on tahoes that reminded me of firing an ar-15 into a metal garbage can. I'm adding quite a bit of sound deadener for my stereo, these trucks have thin floors which contributes greatly to the drone on most aftermarket exhausts. Even my buddy's denali with the corsa touring system will drone around 78 just slightly. Also for anyone with a denali thinking of lowering your truck please have a system built after you lower the truck...I have to redo my entire system since the pipe is hitting on my axle with the 3/5 drop. I kinda wanted an excuse to buy some longtube headers anyway.

Yes but there are different sizes of the actual muffler too, like 3.5x7, 4x9, 5x11, 5x8... the one that comes in the cat back kit is 5x11. But I most likely wont get the whole kit just the muffler and have the shop put it on. Also I've looked on the internet a while and cant find what im looking for Does anybody make a rear bumper/roll pan that has like dual exhaust cutouts or half circles in them kinda like the new Dodge rams do? So it will depend on how hard and expensive it will be to do the dual out the back or just single out the side.
I dont actually have the tahoe yet but I will be getting a loaded 03 LT 4x4 from a family member in may or sooner. It is completely stock but I want to do a few things to boost the mpgs. I am planning on getting an AEM Brute Force intake, exhaust, and hypertech max energy or e-con(havent decided yet).. Do you guys have any other relatively inexpensive improvements to suggest? for both power and mpgs...
thanks

Mine was the Magnaflow 3" single off-set in... single center out (I think... maybe the other way around... but it was a 3" single/single) 21" long stainless steel muffler. I had a shop weld up a new pipe (to get rid of the Y-section) and put on a new tip.

I've thought about doing a little sound deadening... my wife is OK with it now, but I'd kind of like there to be a little less drone on the highway...
