I took my 2008 LT2 tahoe w/20" factory wheels on a trip this past week and was only getting around 11.3-13 mpg using the E85 gas. My hoe now has 1200 miles on it.

yep, that is the severe and stupid downside to E85. Better performance but you have to use 15-20 percent more of it than standard gas.

Stupid downside? I think sending all of our money to the Saudis is a much more stupid downside than paying a little more for E85.

Actually takes more energy input to produce ethanol than you get back.

only way ethanal helps us is with emmisions. but just an FYI, it takes 1 and 1/2 gallons of gas to make ONE gallon of CORN, SO WE USE MORE GAS TO MAKE LESS CORN AND BURN IT FASTER. we need to switch to SUGAR CANE:rolleyes:

It also takes more energy to charge a battery than you get back. This isn't about reducing energy to produce something it is about a renewable form of energy that is transportable.

I hate to keep this thread derailed, but there simply isn't enough arable land in the US to support all the vehicles with ethanol only. It would actually be more detrimental to the environment, economy and food stocks than oil alone. Most hydrogen and electric technologies are energy transporters, not energy sources. If you read many of the scientific journals instead of the un-substantiated drivel the liberal media crams down our throats, its apparent that the technology has a long way to come before alternative fuels become economically and ecologically viable. Green is just the new catch phase of the decade, give it a few years and it will be something else.

I went to mexico this weekend and the road I was on the speed limit varied between 40-50 for 75 miles (150miles round trip, flat most of the way) I avg. about 19.8 mpg for that trip. I was very please with my mileage but as soon as I got but to the good ol' U S Of A where the speed limit is 75 and cars driving 85 my mileage dropped back to 14.

There are new ethanol production methods currently coming online that will make these statements untrue.

I drive to and from San Francisco and Lake Tahoe, three times a month, and have found that if you turn on cruise control going anywhere between 65 and 75 mph, I'm able to average 22-25mph. much better than driving normal with my foot on the peddle.

I agree and if that is the reason you run E85 then by all means it is a good reason to do so. That being said E85 does not help in any other way that it is proposed to do so(enviormentally or otherwise). There is plenty of oil right here in North America if we want it.

When E85 cost as much or more than 87 octane petrol and you have to use twice as much then it is not "a little more" for E85. That is unless you're a corn farmer then it's money in the bank.
