How many of you have swapped out the factory reverse lights for either LEDs or HIDs?

I'm thinking of installing LEDs to match the other external LEDs I've put in, but am concerned about light output and I absolutely need to be able to see with the backup camera at night.

HIDs are complete overkill, and probably a real PITA to install back there...

Anyone try either of these LEDs? Option 1 / Option 2

I don't want to waste $50 if I can't see, so thanks for sharing your experiences!

Bulbs are h11 just like the head lights.. they are the ones the fit the best.. it is not very hard to retrofit.. at the end i just added some silicond the the end side of the bulb to void any humidity from going inside.. very very simple mod.. I started with 6K bulbs and then replace them with 4300 ... it looks very very nice how they start blue... and then they just become very very bright white..

How long have you had the HID in the reverse lights? I thought it wasn't good for the lifespan of the bulb to have them turn on and off frequently in short bursts. They certainly look impressive!

Thanks for the info, I was wondering what you meant by that because I've been seeing it in your signature for a while but now I know, It looks good and I may try it because my 5% tint on top of the facctory 30% makes it a bit hard too see at night in reverse.

Just do it.. i got the kit out of ebay.. $80 ship to my door.. very nice digital slim ballast.. when you open the truck with the OEM remote they light up... really cool mod... I dont hink any type of LED bulb will provide the light out up or the look it self.. dont wast your money on them.. my opinion..

Good luck modding!!!

Out of curiosity...why did you replace the 6,000 with 4,300??

Hey guys first post here, just joined, just got my tahoe (still has the dealer plates!) In any case I'm looking to do the brighter backup lights, I can't see %&^* when backing up at night. Anyway those HID's look sweet but I live in a neighborhood and don't want to shine my neighbors eyes out everytime I back up. also looking for something easy. Are those HID's as bright as they look in the pic? is there any easier solution than the mod. I hack computers and stuff all the time so that's not an issue but I'm just curious.

Yes, HIDs are insanely bright. You could always learn to back your new truck into your own driveway / garage with this mod, and not have to worry about blinding the neighbors...right? ;) Oh, and welcome!

thanks

Good point about backing into the garage :ktoe:

However as far as the neighbors go, they are all actually pretty cool and wouldn't say anything. Just trying to be respectful especially since they got me some sweet hunting land to use and I'd like to keep using it!
I am thinking now I might just put in a backup camera anyway. It will help for lineing up the trailers and boats and such at 3 am when we're heading out to hunt. Might do both the lights and cam we'll see.

You could also for 100 bucks get one of those trailer hitch lights.
