Get OBD codes without a scanner on 2004

I'm sure it's somewhere on the forum, can't fined it.
How do I get OBD codes fron 2004 without a scanner?

I have a 2004 and I don't think there is a way to do that. But do like I did, visit O'Reilly's or one of the other major auto parts stores and they scan for nothing. They even reset mine so I could say if the codes returned.

I think there is a way,
All other American made cars have a way to get the codes without a scanner.
