I'm looking into buying a used 07' Tahoe (4wd) soon. The only thing I'll be towing is a small trailer for my ATV. And that's once a month. What final gear ratio should I get or look into? A 4.10? Does it differ in the LS, Z71, LT or LTZ? I just want the best overall gas mileage. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

You'll get better mileage with the 3.42, which I believe is the standard supplied rear. You wouldn't want the 4.10 unless you towed some heavy trailers, or were in the mountains all the time. My Oldsmobile Car has a 3.07.

I think the 3.42 is standard on 2wd and the 3.73 is standard on the 4wd. Just pulling a small trailer will be fine with any of the gear ratios.

i would get 3.73's i had 4.10's on my 06 and it gave me plenty of towing and passing power, but when i wasnt towing i got 14 mpg city 15 mpg highway average.

the new one with 3.73's has IMO more power and still tows amazingly, and with out towing i average (according to DIC) 16 city and 19-20 highway.

so look at it this way 3.42's may work but would be lagging, 4.10 would definatly work, but not pratical otherwise, so 3.73 is your best bet.

Thanks guys ... another quick question; Is the Hybrid meant for towing? I was looking at one today and notice the gear ratio was 3.08.

Well its got a 6.0 but they tried to save weight where ever they could so cooling for the engine and tranny are not really built for towing (may over heat)

I would not really reccommendit for heavy duty towing

You can tow something light, no problem.

Yeah 4.10s I think were only for 4wd but I'm not sure. Also I think LS models were only available with the higher gears (lower numbers). Could be wrong on this. Anyway, I think you'd have a pretty hard time even locating one with 4.10s, new OR used. 3.73s should be fine for most needs.

Don't mean to hijack the thread here but where are the gear codes located?
I know I'm a noob here and I am aware of the codes for each ratio. Tried looking for it but couldn't come up with anything.

Thanks in advnce!

You didn't jack it, you brought it back from the dead. The list of RPO codes is in the glove box, on the left, laying flat when the box is open.

I have a '13 LTZ Tahoe 4x4 5.3l and 6 speed with 342 gear. Mileage is NOT good and terribly slow starting on a hill. Pulling the camper in tow mode rpms stay around 2500 and up. I wish the engine has some torque and less 4000 rpms!
