30 gallon tank? Mine has a 25 gallon gas tank.

In your owners manual does it really say you have a 25gal tank? i've got a 97, and a 99 both owners manuals say the suburban is like 35gal, and the yukon/tahoe is 30

I have owned a 93 Yukon (30 gal tank) a 97 Tahoe (30 gal tank) and a 97 Suburban (45 gal tank - if I remember right)...don't think I have seen yuk,hoe or burb with only 25 gallons. *shrug*

I don't have the original owners manual, so I can't say. I asked the dealer how big of a tank it had when I was buying it, and was told it was 25 gals. And, I've had the thing presumably on fumes, with the gas gauge below the E line. And I wasn't able to put any more than 25 gallons into it, completely topped off. So I always assumed it was 25 gallons. Maybe the gauge is off. I don't really want to run it dry just to find out the size of my gas tank.

25 gallons is the most I've ever been able to put in my 99. And that was as close to empty as I was willing to get on purpose. On the highway I get 400 miles on a tank..

From what i can tell mine is all original 97 i bought with 188k on the dash. I did a full tune up once i got it home..ie replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor and upgraded the fuel injectors. On the highway it avg'd 15.5 mpg on recent 627 mile each way road trip loaded with lugguage and 5 peeps.

So if my service parts id sticker does not contain any of those codes it's a 30 gallon tank? Is that what you mean by "If you have Fuel Tank Delete it is code: 9H2"?

Ah, I get it. It is kinda strange that you could order that.

So, I looked up every RPO code on my sticker and none of them are for the fuel tank size. I did find it interesting that, according to the sticker, I have a Z71 and a kilometer odometer, lol. Does anyone have a link to a reliable web site for RPO code definitions. I'm not confident with the one I found.

Does gas mileage for Tahoes really even matter anymore? V8 trucks in my opinion are only for those who need them for business or those who use them for towing boats/ rvs etc ocassionally, like weekend toys. I have a saturn 4cyl that I drive to and from work, gets 32mpg hwy and city. I drive the tahoe on the weekends. Lets start getting smart with our money gentleman.

Of course you're entitled to your own opinion, but I'm sure that most of us here drive our trucks because we enjoy them. I have an economy car that I can drive if I need to save money. But I prefer driving my Tahoe. I like the feel of real torque when I step on the gas. I will drive my small car if I ever have trouble paying for the gas my Tahoe uses. But until then, I'm going to drive what I want.

Look at the pictures below, that is my yukon pulling a friend back on to the pavement after he drove his dodge stratus down a bank (ya i don't know what he was doing ethier..) all i know is i was at our new church working yesterday and everone outside said oh crap! i walked out and seen it and im like what in the world... - now, lets talk about how to get a new small car towed.. - where in the world would you hook a strap? you Have no frame!... - i wound up having to hook it to the rear-cross-member for the back wheels which can bend something very bad and may have.. - how about ground clearence? you have very little.. again i'm tall when i have to get out of something that is that close to the ground.. it isn't easy - getting that car out.. well lets just say it broke the curb, tore up the strap on the gas tank put a good sized dent into the side of the car and who knows what that popping noise it has is now.. out of alignment etc - and i included a picture of what 4-lo can do to pavement...

i sold my tracker that got 25-30mpg and bought my tahoe. it doesn't bother me to put $85 in it every couple weeks and another $40 in my Camaro...

Now don't get it twisted, I never said hoes don't come in handy, which is why I own one with 4wd to tow my boat. I also have a saturn LS which is the big body saturn, i'm 6/3 225lbs and fit in it just fine, actually has close to the same room the tahoe has. Now, if you are not familiar with saturns, they actually DO HAVE built in tow hooks in the front and tow very easily, as you see them mostly being towed behind RV'S. Also why would I drive my saturn into a ditch? and if I did, that is what AAA is for, I wouldn't waste the time, GAS, or chance of damaging the tahoe pulling a car out of a ditch. I pay 1 dollar a month for AAA and its well worth it. Again gentleman, Tahoes are starting to become TOYS, not really cost effective anymore unless you still live out in the OZARKS and the nearest phone is 40miles down the road and all you have is the Hoe. Think about it.

Why are you lecturing us? Tahoes have never been cost effective as a commuter vehicle. But they are very handy to have as a daily driver. You can pretty much take them anywhere you want at the spur of the moment without having to go home and switch rigs. Try going off-road with your Saturn on your way home from work. I can't do that with my Honda, but I can with my Tahoe. If you consider yours a toy, then so be it. But I think you missed the point. While it's nice to have good fuel economy, most of us here didn't have gas mileage in mind when we bought our trucks. But with gas hovering at or above $4 a gallon, it makes sense to try to maximize the gas mileage we do get.

My 2 cents...

I bought my Yukon 5 years ago and it was a 2nd car. I kept it park until the weekend, road trips, or snow in the winter. Had summer dubs and winter stock rims. That was also before I bought my house. For the last 3 years it's been a daily rider in addition to raod trips. BUT because of gas prices, and honestly money trubbs, I copped a 91 Accord 5speed for the daily grind. I'm 6'6" 225and it's like driving a go kart! I'm in good shape so flexibilty is no prob but I'm gonna get a speeding ticket I can tell. Haven't stopped for a yellow light since I got that little fart. I'm gonna get my truck in tip top condition again and some new shoes with the gas money I save which is literally about 60 to 75 bux a week for the past 2 months. I wonder what the mileage on the 08 hybrids is like?

I drive my gas-guzzling V8's because I enjoy them. I don't believe in the "Point A to Point B" philosophy of car ownership - if you want something, buy it. I drive 1200 miles a month, and I don't want to be stuck in a plastic sardine can, especially if I'm destined to get in a wreck(12 years and counting without even a speeding ticket on my record). Enjoy the money that your hard work gets you.

I gotta agree with one of the previous posts. First off nobody was worrying about gas when we bought these monsters. And quite frankly Im not worried about it now. But it does make sense to try and add parts that will MAXIMIZE your mpg. Hense the throttle body spacer, new dual cats and muffs, msd ignition (not installed yet just ordered from Ebay), K&N air filter, properly inflated tires....you get my point.
Secondly, I love the safety and power it has. Takes the best winter can throw at it (in the chicagoland area) and it takes a good punch too. Ran completly over a stop sign and all it did was bend my stock running board. no undercarriage damage or anything. Left a green paint mark, not a dent, on my front bumper which i buffed out:smilielol: Im only selling this chevy if i find another i like better:cool2:
