Fuel pump relay

Hey guys I have a 96 Tahoe. The fuel pump is going out and I have to hit the bottom of the tank to start it. It has 3/4 of a tank of gas in it. Somebody told me I could take the fuel line off at the filter and run a hose from it to a gas can and jump the relay to keep the pump running continuously and then turn the key and it will drain the fuel tank. Can somebody tell me if this is actually possible and if so what pins on the relay do u jump?

Yup, check the diagram on the relay itself..... should have a pinout printed/ embossed on it.

So I got the fuel out and got the gas tank down but for the life of me I can't get the fuel lines loose from the pump. Ive used 2 different types of quick disconnect tools and nothing works. I get the tool in the fitting but it won't pop off. Any ideas on what to try next or what I may be doing wrong?

Yeah, they are a PITA, I tried 2 different ones, the plastic ones I bought at Sears worked the best and really weren't expensive (could have bought numerous others for more money that could have been better, but these worked) The ones I did on my Tahoe I had cheap flimsy plastic ones and I ended up using them and some plastic to shim it up (plastic was too thin to disengage the fingers all the way.
