fuel pump noise

I have a 1998 yukon, when i turn the truck off i hear an electric weining noise. i was told it was my fuel pump, is that a bad noise or is it supose to be there?

It makes a noise as it pumps fuel, the oil pressure switch will keep it running untill the oil pressure bleeds down.

Can you tell where it is generally coming from? How long does it last?
