My fuel guage needle is very inconsistent in its readings. It varies randomly, usually by about a 1/4 tank. When I fill up, the needle goes far past the full line, so I'm assuming the lower reading is accurate. Does anyone know of a way to correct this?

You know I have that same problem with mine. I am thinking its either the sender or possibly the cluster. My other needles do funky things as well. :confused2:

I don't know about the second poster, who sounds like there may be a bad ground somewhere causing gauges to be whacky.

But, I put an aftermarket fuel pump / sender on mine and my gauge went stupid. Ran out of gas at 1/4 tank, and 10 bucks gave me a full tank... Sometimes... It made more noise than the OEM so I yanked it back out and went OEM, it was totally fine again...

Generally, you'd want to check the grounds for the sender etc. On mine, I don't think there was a ground issue with the aftermarket unit, just a whacky sender maybe.

I always reset my trip odo in tahoe and grand prix when I fill up so I kinda know how many miles I have left.

My Grand prix and Tahoe fuel gauges both seem to work exactly the same, it goes down slow for the first half and the half full mark you're really only about 1/3rd full so the last half of the guage moves twice as fast. but they're both always completely consistent and predictable.

Do the tahoes have a low fuel light? I've never seen it and I've got so empty that I put in as much as 28.5 gallons a couple times. if its there maybe its burnt out.

Never seen a low fuel light on my 97 Yukon. I've also ran very low. I don't think the time I ran out of gas is telltale as the sender wasn't acknowledging I was actually out of gas.

My gauge seems to work in fifths. 1/5 from full to the full line, and then each 1/4 tank is another 1/5.

wait, so you mean to tell me that whole "30 gallon fuel tank" thing on the sticker is legit??? normally when im on E a refuel is about 22-24 gallons! and the 24 was when i pushed it, and i was thinkin i was gonna run out.

Hehe.. I did a fuel pump when mine was on E, and there was a LOT of gas in there still... 5 Gallons left @ E certainly wouldn't surprise me.

I'm resurrecting this old thread as mine is doing "something" like this...

I've noticed on REALLY hot days on the first start of the engine (morning, noon, night doesnt' matter it always happens on the first start) the fuel guage will go to empty, low fuel light will light up but after a few minuutes it goes back to normal and shows the fuel level...once it goes away after a warm up or whatever it won't do it again.

I have noticed that the needle WILL go past full on a full tank...I have an '01 2500 Yukon and it has a 38 gallon tank

I'm confused on the gauge acting like it's empty - sender? no other gauge has any issues
