Fuel gauge going nuts on my 97 Tahoe wtf??

My fuel gauge is going round and round like crazy and getting stuck on the oil pressure gauge,whats causing this a bad gauge or bad sender??any help appreciated.

bad sender time to replace before its too late and your gauge messes up to.

Gas tank gotta come down right?i might as well replace the pump again since im gonna be there no?

The sending unit and pump were replaced a couple of years ago,after then the gauge always moved and just a few days ago it started going haywire spining around like crazy,could a wire have been pinched or something??

maybe... what i would do is replace the pump and sender and the wires that connect to them that should work..... GoodLuck

I just replaced my fuel pump (again) this time with with oem unit. aftermarket sending unit burned up the contacts at the resistor in the tank.
Now I have the same problem as you. Gauge spins and goes nuts when I turn on the truck.
I was told it could be the stepper motor that turns the needle or the pcm.

I dont know of any tests to confirm just swap and hope

don't swap anything its obviously true the stepper motor in your gauge cluster is bad its not that costly to replace it probably 50$ at the most at the dealer or an electrical shop will probably charge about 38$ to rebuild the whole cluster (Which is what i would do)
