front diff hole

i have a 98 tahoe 2dr 4x4 and as i was under it today working on it i looked at the backside of the front diff. and thier is a big hole in it...i can see the big gear flywheel in it...its not a hole that i did but looks more like a plug use to be their and it came out...ill try to get pics of it tomarrow in the daylight but does anyone know what im talking about?

Sounds like the drain plug fell out...oops!
You need to replace that ASAP and fill it up with some fresh new gear lube and pray that the gears aren't damaged, due to the excessive heat build-up caused by the gears spinning fast, without lube to cool them off...:eek:

wouldnt happen to have a website where i could order a new one do ya..not sure if its a drain plug though because its a good 2 inch radius hole seems more of jus a plug of some type went their...will get a pic of it in the daylight soon.

not sure of a website. you could probly go to your local dealership and get one for cheap. good luck!
