Is there much difference in sound between the 50 series dual exhaust and the single? I have been contemplating what to do for about 3 weeks now and am so confused. :confused2:

I don't know how the single would sound...but I just put the 50 series dual exhaust on my Tahoe and it sounds real good..not too loud...but enough to know it is there. It is extemely quiet during idle..and not very loud inside the cab at cruising speeds.

I had an '06 with a single out 50 series flowmaster cat-back. I was not happy with it to me it seemed too quiet. So then I installed a Super 40 flowmaster (dual out also) on my 2007 tahoe but that was way way too loud. Now I have a dual out 50 series flowmaster catback and it actually just right for the Tahoe. Sound good while acclerating but it mellows out at normal highway speeds. I would go with dual out.

I have a flowmaster 50 series also with a nice chrome 12" tip. Looks great and sounds very mean. I would recommend the 50 series but sometimes i still
wish i got the 40 series just cause i love loud sounds that disturb peace. hahah

I know you can't tell by looking at the pic's but I have 18' tips with 4 inch diameter. I still think the 40 series is way too loud (my $.02).

Gentlemen, and I use that term loosely...I have an '07 Tahoe LTZ and I want to put Flowmaster duals on it. The shop that would do the intstallation says the I would have to take out the spare tire for good otherwise the pipes would come dangeriously close to the fuel filler neck and rubber hoses coming from the gas tank. It looks to me that you guys have done it without any problem. Is this guy just uninformed, or what? And is the 70 series muffler too quiet?

yeah, he doesn't know what he is talking about. flowmaster make a dual out for an 07 tahoe. If the guy doesn't feel he is able to do it take it somewhere else. Or buy the kit and do it yourself. it's not that difficult it should take you about 2 hours then you can have some weld it for you. I don't have any first hand experience with a 70 series but I was told that it is a little mellower but you still get the same performance.

www.summitracing.com has it cheaper i think.

I love the 50 Series muffler. You can go to major sites like autoanything.com and look up entire cat-back systems for your car. The Flowmaster American Thunder system is dual exit and has everything you need and uses the 50 Series muffler. You can just take everything in the box to any shop and they will put it in for ya. I did it, and it sounds awesome, especially after you have put some miles on it and "break it in" if you will. People who drive much louder trucks give it compliments all the time.

Gonzo,

Hey bro, your z71 Tahoe looks wicked. I bought the black Suburban z71 version a few days ago, (as you know from other posts ;) ) because the look is so Darth Vadar omnious.

Anyways, love your exhaust. How much $$$ did it cost you?

Long story, I call it my $700 exhuast. Basically the first dual exhaust I did was with a super 40 series I drove with it for about 4 months and I loved/hated it, it was just too loud I paid about $425. I ended up going back to getting a 50 series which was just perfect ( not too loud but aggressive enough) I only paid $250 ( I've use this shop for other "repairs" that the owner is basically a friend of mine, now, so he gave me a discount). I think a set up like this you may end up paying about $350-$450. That includes new pipes and muffler and tips. :cool2: which is cheap compared to some guys on this forum who paid about the same for just a muffler.

Sounds like (pun intended) that the 50 Series muffler is a great way to go. Now only decision to make is single or dual exhaust. I feel on the one hand that a single is cheaper, lighter, and possibly more efficient than duals. On the other hand, who would even know you have an exhaust installed (visually) if you go with a single. At least you see a custom dual exhaust.

Any thoughts on this? And please, no one mention my weight comment about duals. Yeah yeah, if you wanted a lighter vehicle you shouldn't have bought a 4x4 Suburban, etc...

i really dont think the extra pipe makes a difference, I got the dual out the side and it sounds perfect and looke even better, than again i am all about symmetry.
