hello everyone,
i bought my first tahoe this past week. i absolutely love it. best truck i have ever owned. its a 4 door 97 ls with only 18,000 miles on it. for only 8 grand. i have a question. i want to take all the badges off of it and was wondering if i could take the molding off the side of the truck. that runs from wheel to wheel. is it just glued on or if i take it off will there be holes drilled in the doors. i really dont like how it looks.

Welcome to the forums! I also have a 1997, it's good to welcome another GMT 400 Tahoe owner to the forum. What has that vehicle been doing for the last decade in order to have only 18,000 miles though?

the truck was owned by an old couple. they used it to tow a pop up camper. they got rid of the camper after that many miles and they just parked the truck in the garage for years cause it was too big for the wife to drive. so they traded it in to a dealership in my area for a new car. i noticed it on cars.com two days later and b ought it the third day. heres a link to the cars.com site. the truck is still on there. http://www.cars.com/go/search/detai...ional&paId=282606658&recnum=7&leadExists=true

dude just wanted to tell you i checked out the pics of your tahoe. you have a few of the same touches done that i want to do to mine. did you just paint your grill to match the color of the car? and those fender flares are the ****. i will definatley have to get the same ones. another thing was the molding on the doors. i see yours are still on. i want to take them off. i was told its just double sided adhesive so ill use a heat gun to take that off. and i want to do an HID kit. also i want the bumpers to match the color of the car too. real simple. do you have pics of the center console you have installed?
once again. beautiful looking truck man.

Wow, that is amazingly low mileage, GREAT find.

In response to your first question, GMT 400 describes the generation of Tahoe that we own. GMT 400 Tahoe is first generation (approx. 1995-2000), GMT 800 is second generation (approx 2000-2006), and GMT 900 is third generation (2007-current).

More information regarding GM vehicle platforms here; GM GMT Platform.

In regards to your second set of questions regarding my vehicle, I had the grille painted but I did not do it myself so I do not know all of the work involved in doing it. I have Stillen fender flares on my vehicle and they are surely the best looking fender flares available for our vehicles, I would recommend them for sure.

Link to the product here; Stillen Fender Flare Kit

I like the black trim on the vehicle, but a lot of other members have removed it without problems, it is just held in place by a strong adhesive as far as I know, no drilling or holes to worry about at least.

The xenon HID modification is one of my favorites, it looks great as well as greatly increases light output at night. By the book, xenon HID is not supposed to be used in reflector headlamps and there are members who espouse that you need to install projector headlamps in order to correctly perform a xenon HID conversion, but I prefer the appearance of the OEM headlamps, so it is surely not necessary and it still does not blind oncoming traffic as others have tried to espouse.

I replaced my original bumpers with Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 bumpers, both front and rear and then had them painted to match my vehicle. It was difficult to find these bumpers, I had to get the front one shipped from a salvage yard in California.

I found the front bumper by utilizing Car-Part.com to search a nationwide database of recycled automotive parts. I found the rear bumper by stumbling across one on my local Craigslist.

And finally, the GMC Yukon Denali console pics can be found on page two of my CarDomain, here is one picture;

Hopefully this helps, if you have any other questions just ask. I have been a proud owner of this vehicle for nearly a decade now, so I have a decent knowledge of these vehicles. Take care, and keep the miles on that jewel low!

Haha, see what I mean about the projector headlamps available?

Not bugging me at all, I'm glad to help. Are you referring to an OBC (on-board computer)? I am nearly certain that an OBC was never available as an option on the GMT 400 Chevrolet Tahoe.

I know just the space you are talking about. The rear air conditioning control switch, if equipped, is located in that empty space. Post some pics of the vehicle when you get the flares installed!
