Exterior Trim problem

I want to get rid of the black plastic trim on the sides but i pulled up some of it and it was bare metal underneath. So does anyone know where you can buy gloss black trim pieces that would cover that up. I thought about cutting my own plastic strips, rounding the edges, covering the plastic with gloss black vinyl, then put double sided tape and poof...there you have gloss black trim peices. but that is all just an idea that popped into my head...anyone think this is possible? I work in a sign shop so all of these materials are right here at my finger tips i just want some opinions if this is a stupid idea or not.
