Exhaust system Question

If i were to change the stock muffler to a flowmaster muffler.... would i still get the mpg increase ? Or do i have to get the whole complete system?:mpr:

I would think that all you would gain is noise. The whole system is designed to flow better than stock hence no mpg gain.

Gas mileage loss...because it will sound so good you'll wanna keep your foot in it!

I added one to mine, couldn't tell a diffeence, other than sound, which was the more reason I wanted it anbyway. BUT, if you do the complete catback, you might.

thats what i was thinking... so the best thing to do is get tha whole system i guess. If i really want it to be efficiant and not just loud.

I think that there will be some increase as the stock muffler is much more restrictive than any performance muffler.
I wanted to try changing just the muffler on my Denali but my local muffler guy didn't want to do it so I bought a Magnaflow cat back system and have absolutely no regrets.

i would think you wouldnt get any MPG gain with just a new muffler. the reason is, the new muffler might be less restrictive but as soon as it leaves the muffler its still going to hit the stock pipping. i would just bite the bullet and go with a whole new system. here is mine.http://www.tahoeforum.com/showthread.php?t=7154
