I have a 99 Tahoe that makes a popping noise from the exhaust and sounds like its more by the cat. This usually makes this noise while it's idling and when first taking off. I have notice it's initial pick up when first taking off seems like it struggles and yesterday it stalled as I hit the gas to take off from a stop.

Suggestions on the cause

So I took the Tahoe to the muffler shop. Started it up for the mechanic and it died immediately. Wouldn't start back up. He did hear a leak in the exhaust. Seems now like its also the fuel pump. The mechanic for the fuel pump quoted me 380 with parts. Labor and the tow. I know on my cadi sts it was 800 so this seems pretty fair.

Second opinion????

Yeah not me. I change oil, install audio, and give my vehicles baths. I leave all the big things for a mechanic and my bank account. Lol

If thats what a mechanic says, Id always get a second opinion unless you know and trust the guy. One thing that is nice about a mechanic doing to work is that if they don't fix the problem the first time, the customer is always right and they usually fix it again for little to nothing. Id go that route and save yourself the headache

Yeah ever since it stalled at the muffler shop I'm getting the same reaction as I did with my cadi when I needed to change the fp on it.

I just picked the Tahoe up a couple months ago for 2 grand. Arizona vehicle so it's in good shape. I knew it needed brakes and I heard the tiny leak in the exhaust. After brakes and fuel pump plus the 2k I paid I'm at 2500. Not bad.

I went from a 2002 ford explorer to the Tahoe and so far I'm happy. I spent a lot of money on that damn explorer. The repair costs seem a lot less on the Chevy.

The Tahoe came with 20" chrome rims. Almost brand new tires. The guy put escalade seats in it. Has a flow master exhaust. Seems so far I'm doing pretty good with the truck. It has about 175k miles but the motor is quiet so hopefully she lasts me a couple years. I may make it a project truck. I'm still undecided.

I picked up a FP assembly for my 'hoe for $140 shipped from amazon.com and it was an OEM DELCO unit, not some knockoff generic....... Which is about what the POS generic pumps go for, had a new fuel level sender and all- another thing that goes wrong with GM's.......

Good luck whatever you do, I started out pretty basic and will tackle about anything nowadays if I have time to do so.....
