Driver side window not moving

I tried to lower my windows when it was cold, most didn't move, but the driver side window popped and now the motor seems to work but the window is no longer attached to it, it's staying closed.

Is this something easily fixed myself by disassembling the door and reconnecting it, or should I be taking it to a shop?

And is it a bad sign if the windows don't work when it's cold. I mean, it was cold, but not as cold as it can get in southeastern Ontario. Is it a sign of a weak battery or motor?

Not sure of what you are driving but just in the last 4 months I had to replace both drivers and passenger front window regulators in my '02 Yukon XL Denali. Both started opening and closing slower and slower over a very short time and then the first one actually suddenly started making a very bad grinding sound and basically stopped as well. The regulators run off of a cable and pulley system and on mine the cables actually frayed and got bound in the pullies, causing it to basically not move without help. Mine was cake, the stealership wanted somewhere around $450 to replace my regulator but the part itself was $130 so I did it myself. PIECE OF CAKE, the stealership said something like 2 hours it would take them while it only took me 45 minutes start to finish, didn't even break a sweat!! Get yourself a book and check it out for yourself, it was just way too easy!!

Haha you must have been having the same night as me, I did the same thing not 5 days ago, with that same symptoms; actually thats how i found this place for info to fix, im going to attempt on wed, if you have fig'd it out lemme know!

My Tahoe windows freeze much more readily than any car/truck that I have ever owned. It usually takes the truck to heat up inside before they wil move.

the window motors in these things generally suck. You can replace them yourself. Can be done in < 20 minutes so don't pay someone to do it.

I just did My Drive side on Sunday, My window went down and would only go up half way and stop. (Has to happen on the coldest day of year MN).Anyways I bought a Brand new Part of Ebay for 56.00 shipped to my door. I bought a manual at Fleet Farm, shows you how to remove door panel and what 6 bolts you need to remove to get the regular out. Actual a pretty easy job.Helps to have a extra set of hand.Hardest part was getting the dam Electrical to unplug. Shop wanted 450.00 to di it. I did my for 56.00 part & 14.95 book.

Yep, the book was a must to make it quick and easy, especially for the first one. By the time I replaced my drivers side (4 months later) I was a pro and didn't even need the book. My local stealership quoted me around $400 as well, I am so very glad I did it myself.

anyone know if you can just replace the cable? my motor and assembly is fine however the cable is broken in the middle :zav: Any help would be appreciated

I looked into just replacing the cable and I couldn't find that option anywhere, plus if you look at the regulator while it is in your hands you will see why it probably isn't an option (it is pretty much a self-contained unit besides the detachable motor).

Well thanks for the quick reply, I guess I'll plan on replacing it when i get back from vacation. I just have a feeling its going to be not much fun to work in that small of a space.

Seriously, it was amazingly easy, way to easy to have a dealership replace it for you, just get yourself a Haynes manual or anything else that gives you a step by step instructions with pics and your set. The first one I did only took 45 minutes, start to finish and the second only a half hour and I barely touched the book. The only tricky part of it all was taking the class out and putting it back in without removing the window weaterstripping, but with a little playing with it, it was in and out without problems. Let me know when you get your regulator and I would be more than happy to help you out!!

Just use some Tape and Tape the window in the up position. You don't have to remove the window.

That would work but I didn't want to trust tape to hold my window up, I did think about wedging something at the bottom of the window opening as well but then I just invisioned an easy 45 minute job becoming an expensive swear fest because the tape didn't hold, and knowing my luck that would happen!!

Newbie here so bear with me. I have a 01 Yuk that the passanger front window will not go down. I realize this is better than not up.....You can see the dash lights dim when you press either window control button and hear a slight click but nothing with the window? Any Suggestion? Also I will make a seperate post but my lift gate window will not open and the gate does not lock when you lock the truck? Any ideas? THANKS!
