so a few weeks ago there was a post that i did about my differential and how there was teeth missing on the ring gear... well heres the verdict... apparently our differentials SUCK! i take it in 600$ to get the ring gear and pinion replaced along with new shims and bearings... well dropped it off Friday and they called and said my whole posi / limited slip unit is bad! WTF so now all together its gunna be 1100$ to fix and a used one is around 900 so a new rebuilt ones a little more but i think its worth it! LAME!!! and apparently u have to put the same gears back in it or u can tear up you 4x4 extra lame! i cant even modify it and make it better! UGHHH!

that sux, you should drop in a bigger rear end since you have to pay for it already.

you can change the gears, you just have to change the fronts to match the rears. a complete re-gear at a local shop runs about $1200.

if i remember correctly the 2500 had the 14 bolt rear-ends and ours just have the 10 bolt rear-ends. so you'd have to swap the entire rear end for the 2500 diff to work.

ya i was getting the WHOLE diff and i was just gunna swap it then it was a 8lug after being told it was a 6, the shop thats replacing everything is charging me 100bucks labor hella cheap, its 480 for the ring and pinion and its 500 for the posi and like another 30 or so for shims and bearings so 1000 for parts and like 100 for labor and theres a yr warranty not bad..the 2500 rear end would been nice and alot stronger tho...

The gov-loc limited slips in these trucks suck and usually take out the gear and/or the case with em once they fail. Front diff should be fine, the rears are just tiny and won't take much abuse due to the high shock load the factory limited slips put on them. Invest in a good aftermarket limited slip (detroit tru-trac, eaton lsd, auburn lsd) and you'll never have issues. They made 14 bolt semi float 6 lug rear axles but they aren't much stronger. 2500 from diffs on these body style are way wider so you may as well solid axle that bitch.

they called me telling me the posi needs replaced $ 400.00 more total $1490.00.
