I got a question...On my 2006 Tahoe I have 4WD, but the 4WD high, and the 4WD low buttons are the only ones that are backlit when the lights are on. I may have never noticed it before but shouldn't the 2WD and the Auto 4WD buttons be backlit as well? It's been bothering me so I called a few Chevy dealers around my area and some tell me that all the drivetrain buttons should be backlit and some are telling me that only the 4WD high, and 4WD low should be backlit.

I'm getting some conflicting info from the dealerships and if anyone with a 2006 Tahoe or any Tahoe with the same type of body style please let me know. If all buttons should be backlit what can the problem be?

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Thanks for the reply and the pics. I never really noticed it before...but when I glance to the left on the dash it just feels a little odd not having the 2WD and Auto 4WD buttons lit up.

Okay...I took my truck into a car audio shop to fix my steering wheel controls properly and I told them my situation about my dash lights going out. I asked them if this was caused by a bad install of my aftermarket deck, steering wheel controls, etc. They told me that because wires are being plugged and unplugged may cause the backlights from going out, and then guess what happens when they fixed my steering wheel controls...one of the lights on my steering wheel went out again. Is this true? By plugging in and unplugging wires cause the backlights to go out, or is this due to a bad installation job?

the line that they fed you about them going bad due to unplugging and plugging in wires sounds like BS to me.

A bad install wouldn't directly cause certain light bulbs to go out. Sometimes unplugging and plugging harnesses will cause a small spike, not enough to damage anything else, but just enough to burn out a bulb element. This is especially true with the clock backlight in the last gen Accords.
