:eek2: I own a 1996 tahoe 2door 4x4 and this morning I changed the oil in my truck and notice a crack that goes around one bolt of the bellhousing of the transmission an also has a receding line that is going up from the same crack of the bellhousing is this a dangerous situation to be in or how bad can it be if it cracks even more the truck is not lifted, the gears switch fine :hlp: will post picture also no leaks

I had a 96 dodge ram once.. that a dodge caravan pulled out in front of.. doing around 70MPH i smashed the van and moved it out of my way crashing into a telephone pole guide wire - this made the front end set back about two inches - anyways i rebuilt the truck, and i had to have all the gears in my transfer case put into a new case - the transfer case had stress cracks all over it and had a chunk missing out of it.. - well about two weeks later the t-case fell out - the transmission also had the stress cracks and doing 70MPH down the interstate and the whole t-case falls out its not a fun feeling..

I have seen them crack before where they bolt to the engine its usually because of loose engine to trans bolts, depending on where the crack is you might be able to fix it but pulling the trans will be required.

i had a friend that i worked with at jegs and he had a cracked bellhousing on a car he raced i know your tahoe is not a race car but, when he went to the line to race,he brought the car up to the rev limiter and the trans exploded,he did not run a shield of anykind so the trans parts came through the floor, and nearly tore his foot off!he was off work a long time not to mention destroyed the floor, steeriing column, windshield, dash and roof of his race car,i know this is a worse case senero but i would never drive with a cracked bellhousing.
