Coolant Reservoir Cap Hose

I recently purchased a 1997 Chevy Tahoe. I can't get it to blow warm air to heat the interior. I checked the coolant reservoir, which was empty, so I filled it, though I noticed the reservoir cap has a hose attached to it. Is this hose meant to be connected to something or is it just an overflow hose?

Overflow hose. You getting heat now? Might have to flush the heater core.....
