Anyone out there ever try a different fluid for the Transfer case (recommended is the Trac II blue fluid) like REDLINE SYNTHETIC "SHOCKPROOF" fluid to help correct lash clunking in a transfer case?

I checked everything else out (U-joints-OK, rear dif-OK, trans.-OK) on a lift with my mechanic, and all was OK.

Did a change of all driveline fluids couple months ago with spec. fluids (Trac II, etc.), everythings been done, just have the "extra" lash in the transfer case.

About the same as yours.

Did you check the "slip yoke" on the driveshaft?

That's a known problem, there's TSB's on it.

The fix on that is to replace it with one that has been "Nickle plated". You can also grease it, but the problem usually comes back in a couple months, from the other posts I've read on the subject.

As soon as I hear back from Redline synthetics, I may put in the "shockproof" fluid they've come up with, only if they recommend it.

I did put the shockproof dif fluid in the rear dif though already.

FYI - did hear back from Redline, and they did not recommend their "ShockProof" fluid for the transfer case, but did recommend their "MTL" synthetic.

I have 96K miles on mine by the way.

Try greasing the slip yoke first, I read that can cure the shift bump symptom you have, and it is fairly easy thing to do - Good Luck with it.
