I have a new 2007 Yukon Denali XL (which I LOVE) and am wondering what is the typical life of brake pads.
I want to know when to start checking them so I don't trash my rotors.
The life of my pads will be lower than typical because my wife commutes to work 35 miles each way 5 days a week and on weekends I put 500 highway miles on it and I drive faster than most people.

Thanks for any info.

I double this!
2007 Yukon XL Denaly Early Production.
I go about 50 miles a day, plus the extras on weekend. My cruise speed is around 100mph and alot of stop and go traffic. My brakes feel worn out and shake at a stop from 100. I have about 13000miles on it
Any help
thinking about gettin Baer or Brembo?

The shake you feel is a vibration from the frt rotors being warped from high speed stopping,(100mph). Pull wheels, cut rotors if they can be cut and inspect pads for wear. Slow down Mario Andretti.....!!
I would put new pads on it anyway regardless of what they look like. You probably glazed the crap out of them.

Not sure about the new Tahoes but most vehicles of the last ten years have an audible wear sensor on the pad that will alert you when it's time to start checking and get new pads installed.

previous generation tahoe/suburban usually see brakes going around 80-100k miles
i would expect at least that out of these unless GM did some unimproving of parts haha

but the suburbans/XLs do have a tendancy to warp much easier due to the added weight, and warping and glazed pads is not something you want.

Ssssqquuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkk!!!! !!

I have noise issues with my brakes -- VERY squeaky in the AM. 10K miles, no abusive / high-speed driving here either (okay, well there was that one time, heh). It really ticks me off; it's embarrassing for my $57K truck to be all like "squuuuuuueeeeeeeekkkkkk" as I roll down the driveway. Problem goes away as soon as they're heated up. No vibrations in the brakes or noise on stops in traffic either.

I'm calling the dealer soon to set up an appointment. Does anyone know of a TSB on brake pads / rotors for the GMT900 SUVs? Would be great to have that handy when I go in...

wait till it gets dryer around the area, not sure how close dc is to our weather but its been humid latly down here, and my brakes are sort of like that, but today it was super dry and no squeeking at all. just throwing that out.

but i know what you mean, pulling out of the garage when i hit the brakes to slow down out of the driveway they squeak terribly.

Mine only squeak when it gets really cold (it was 19 in Atlanta one night when I was there not too long ago) but it only lasts for a minute or two until they get warmed up. I don't know if humidity has something to do with it or not, RT, we live on the beach in Clearwater and I don't ever hear anything.

Do the brakes really last 80k miles on the OBS?

my house is ON THE BEACH (well i can see it from the second story..) and the air has to be like 80%, but when its cold i dont hear its, its only when its humid, there is no squeeking when cold (well our coldest day has only been like 35, but it still snowed so i guess it was colder) but even in those average 125 degree va beach days with 0% humidity i have no squeeking, but i do get squeeking on those 90 degree 100 % humidity days, but on those days i chillax in the pool or stay in the house with the ac set to 65. :yesnod:

Haha, I forgot you live on the water. When I think of Virginia I think of like Richmond, not VA Beach. That's strange, I never get it unless it's just bitter cold.

i thought when we moved here it was like that but its really more like a tropical island in the ocean front side then you go down town and completly loose that, thats why i live in the tropical part:sla: :D but whats funny is even though almost 600k people live here, the people down in the resort area are like there is only 6000 people here, every body knows everybody. lol got off topic. :rolleyes2:

Do you really cruise at 100 mph bmwman, or are you just giving me a hard time?
I typically cruise at 80-95mph on the highway but didn't want to post that cause I thought I'd get flamed by the safety nannies. Well scew them!
I hope my rotors don't warp at 13,000 miles. If so, I'll go with a full Brembo overkill kit...

I typically cruise between 80-90 on the highway and haven't had warped rotors. I'm constantly on the road (4-5 days a week, 7-8 hours a day). That's not to say that I haven't had a couple of tickets in the last couple years, but my company pays for them  . On most of the interstates now traffic is flowing at least 80...

Nah, I don't think it's humidity-related. Humidity is like 20-30% here over the last few days. That's basically bone-dry, and they're squeaking like crazy before they warm up. Seems like some kind of thermal deal to me...

Other than stop and go traffic, im usually going about 90-100 maybe more. Sometimes I might be in the mood of a slow drive to show my car, but its mostly fast. The car has too much power to be going slow. I thought my friends 6 series was fast when I had my 2001 Denali, but when I got the 07 I saw some real speed. It limits at about 120, but im taking the limiter off.
My tires are pretty worn out from "Attempted drifts and 360's" and some pretty rough braking. My brakes at 13k suck. They don't stop the way they did when I first got the truck.
I drove a 2008 Range Rover for a week while on vacation, and I loved the brakes. I want the Brembo brakes on my Denali but its like $4k and $3k. forgot which price was front and back.

Anyones tires squeak when you go slow? not the brakes but the tires? When i drive slow and turn the wheels even a little, the tires start squeaking like crazy.
I spend hours cleaning and detailing my car, and when I pull in somewhere nice and slow to show off my car it starts squeaking and everyone steps back. Pisses me off
Any way to fix it?
I have the stock 20" Chrome Rims with the stock tires

I wanna see the vehicle that gets that kind of mileage out of original pads. Havent had that luxury in 13 years. I dont think anyone else has either, unless they drive 30 mph all day.

my mechnic has a 05 tahoe, and when i changed the brakes at 38k he said WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT??!! i said because i feel safer with new brakes for all the trips im makeing this year, he said your origional ones are fine and if you really wanna change them, im gunna put these on mine since they still got another 40-50k miles on them. :D and he aint crazy, since he has been in the business for over 40 years.
