Howdy y'all,

I was wonderin' if anybody has tried bored-out throttle bodies ?

I seen on the 'net an offering for a 75mm TB for 96-00 5.7's and company claims (but of course, eh) of 10-15 hp gains, quicker aceleration, able to achieve mach3, etc.

I would be interested in any opinions or experiance with these.

I'm just runnin' a stock 5.7 (internal) and would be interested if its worth my quid.

I'm runnin' shorty SS headers, CIA, true duals, magnaflow direct-fit hi-flow cats, hypertech programmer and TB spacer.

My 'kon runs good up high but I'm lookin' for a lil' more grunt on take-off. I run stock 3.73 with posi, and not interested in swappin' gears.

Anybody got any good brands or PN's for a good ignition systems ?

I do my own wrenchin' and love my ol 'kon, when I get a chance I'll throw up some pics of my truck and show my mods. (ie 2004 rims and badges)

Thanks

MSD 6AL works fantastic on the 5.7's. They also have a plug and play harness for it. I'm using a MSD 6A (same thing minus rev limiter... cus my motor is stock), along w/ the MSD GM coil and MSD 8.5mm ignition wires. The engine fires up immediately, has super smooth idle, gained about 50 miles per tank, and passes smog with flying colors... VERY low emissions. Persoanlly, I highly recommend it.. especially if you mod your engine.

I love it.

For TB, I used these guys... http://marine-performance-parts.com/
They have a throttle plate mod that's cheap, and also offer bored out throttle bodies. I've had their bored out out TB w/ plate for many yrs now, and never had any problems. The TB response is definitely noticeable. Also highly recommended.

(I have a '99 Yukon Denali, 5.7: just a couple engine mods: K&N intake kit, CFM-Tech Throttlebody, MSD 6A, MSD coil, MSD wires, Iridium spark plugs. All reliable, and engine runs great at 160k miles!)

JP422, would you please consider posting a pic of your MSD 6a and GM coil, and how you mounted them in your 99?
I am thinking of exactly the same thing.. and I think you just did all the shopping for me.

so to clarify, its the 8231 blaster single connection coil, and the 8877 harness. and a regular 6A with no rev limiter...

did you make any tach adjustments, or did your tach still function properly?

sorry to hijack this thread about throttle body spacers.

the parts look about right. I just plugged everything in, hooked up the MSD 6A to the battery, and that was it (new spark plugs and hi performance wires are good addition too). tach is fine. This MSD setup has been on the car for many yrs, and it's been perfect and trouble free. (I did replace the MSD 8.5mm wires once though... the first set had one wire get cut on the silicone housing after 4 yrs of use... so I bought a new set. I think it did it's job well.)

Btw, yes, sorry to hi-jack thread too, but how do you like your header/cat/flowmaster setup? I still haven't touched the exhuast yet, but that is the same setup I was looking into... funny eh?

no changes to the cap/rotor etc? still has the stock distributor?

I was thinking about getting a throttle body spacer in red billet aluminum.

the exhaust..oh yeah its great. I had some leak trouble when I first installed the headers, but I called summit and they sent me a new set with the quickness. those bolted in and leak was fixed. the whole exhaust definately made a difference. it had better pick up off the line and sounded great.
if you have heard the video of JennaBears setup, mine sounds very similar. very low and gurgly. its not terribly loud in the cabin either. if you lay on the throttle, its loud, but not all "flap-plap-plap" loud like i heard some dudes exhaust. Think of a "loud" Harley, and then think of the annoying "too-loud" Harley.
Dont be that guy. lol

I like the look of throttle body spacers. Stylin'Trucks has some cool ones and so does Summit.
A smoothed throtle body from the above marine website looked neat too.

Yea, the distributor is stock... I only changed the cap and rotor (for maintenance purpose). I noticed a bit repsonse difference w/ my throttle body, but I think it's because of the removal of the big air block on the valve plate. As for TB spacers... they look great... but do they really work? I heard they help for older carbed engines, but on EFI? Please let me know if you know something about them.... thanks, and good luck!

Yeap... good ground is very important... I think I hooked it up directly to the battery on mine.

My '99 Denali is rather a sleeper... (and still sleeping  ) Stock exhaust, headers, etc. Suspension has been rebuilt though with Skyjacker 2.5" lift kit (upper A-arms, Diff drop, add-a-leaf), Urethane bushings everywhere, longer Rancho adjustable shocks (love these), Hellwig rear sway bar (also love this), upgraded brakes, ignition, and lighting. Just needed a reliable toy hauler that can play in some snow and dirt (here in So Cali, it's not much). Anyway, here's some pics and some of it's "highlights" It's got 160k + miles and engine/tranny still feels great (knock on wood). Also, excuse the dirt. I need to wash/detail her soon

Oh yea, my Stillen front Brembo kit pushed the wheels out to the edge of the fender (which is good)... but the rear wheels were still tucked under the fender, so i got custom billet spacers made... 2" wider for each of the rear wheels. Now the stance sits right...:D
