blower switch assembly

I have problems with the blower speed control. It only works on very slow or fast speed. I replaced the resistor pack,replaced the relay,replaced the motor and replaced the whole blower speed control unit twice ! I did notice discoloration at the connector at the speed control unit so I cut off the "bad"terminal and replaced with new.It seemed to work for a while but eventually went back to the same 2 speeds. Maybe a bad ground caused this? I thought I being an electrician could figure this out...but I give up ! I just think it is a BAD design and we ALL have to suffer with it. Thankyou,
