Dudes, you cant possibly understand how truely lazy I am. Here's step 2 of my big 3 upgrade.. I started in, like, April... I have a few more things to do, but I was so proud (and shamed at the delay) I thought I would post a photo.

I know how hard it is to try to keep an engine bay clean! Great job, and nice wiring!

so i need to think about getting around to this finally. especially since alt. #2 is on its way out in less than a year.

are you completely doing away with the side post wiring and going through the top mounts or both and if so what are you leaving on the side posts? what else are you running through the fused dist. box? or did you just stick it in there for looks?

heres the list so far, let me know if I'm missing anything:
-new optima red top (no top post on the stocker and I'm not a fan of the side posts)
-battery terminals with voltage readout
-10ft 0/1ga red
-3ft 0/1ga black
-(4?) ring terminals? (alt, batt ground, 2 for block to chassis?)
-?distribution block?

96ProComp,
ok.. the fused block.. one goes to the alternator fused at 150A. the second output ( yet to be installed) will go around the back side of the engine and feed the fuse/ relay box. then I can get rid of that stock fused block you see zip-tied to the alt wire. This will also be fused at 150A. I didnt need to do this, but I thought I would since I have already bought too much wire.

for the side post wiring. all that will be left on there are 2 fatty gauge (maybe 4awg?) wires that dissappear down below the engine to the starter. those will be the only things that are left on the side posts. For neatness, I will aim them straight down off the battery, and then they both go into a 1" diameter convoluted tubing, then off into the night.

the distribution block I put in there ( THANK YOU GETWIRED FOR THE LINK TO THAT PART) to get rid of the crappy stock one. once I am done with the wire over to the fuse/relay box that other wire and the rest of the stock dist block will be removed. forever.

Your parts list looks 100% complete.. you have the proper amount of everything.
I also have to thank 95TwinTT Del for the inspiration to find a better fused block.

my truck is a bit different. no factory distribution block here. i just have the alternator cable, starter cable, and fuse block cable all on the possitive side post (with the 4ga. amp power as well)

any reason to put a bigger cable to the starter, i mean its worked for the last 167K miles? and anyone know the stock wire size of the starter cable? (need to find out if it will all wire into the top post terminals.

sorry to thread jack.

I think if you had a higher compression engine, that wouldnt turn over easily, maybe that fatty wire could stand to be upgraded(I mean, along with a high power starter)... but I just left mine. it was fatty enough for my starter. Actually, its bigger in diameter than all other stock wires in the truck.

im no wire-masta, but if the red stuff I got from Knu was 1/0, (and I know what 8awg looks like), I gotta think the stock battery-to-fuse-center is 4awg, and the battery-to-starter-and-back is like, 2awg ( if that is such a thing) some pro audio dude will know this answer for sure. Mine is just a guess.

got it! hey did u order the cabe and the ends or get it locally? need to track down some black that matches the red and another matching end.

Finally kicked myself in the ass to get started on hiding all the wires for the amp/subs/XM box/etc.etc. so hopefully in the next couple weeks i can get that all buttoned up and get the BIG 3 knocked out as well.

dude big thanks again!

no problem. I got the cable from Knu, and the RF ends off ebay. a dude sold 2 sets for 20+shipping. normally they are 20 a pair. you can get the wire in black off ebay. Knu has a store.
the wire guides are from the parts rack at the hardware store, and the copper regular ends are from the hardware store also, near the welding cable.

on ebay or google images, try Rockford ring terminal.
